Ohio State Buckeyes star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has received a bold prediction ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft.
Ohio State Buckeyes star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is off to a great start to the 2026 season.
In Ohio State's blowout victory over Ball State in Week 1, Smith proved he is still one of the best players in the country, finishing with eight receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Smith is in the mix to win the Heisman in the 2026 season and will be a key piece for the Buckeyes offense in pursuit of a National Championship. The star wide receiver has been impactful since he set foot on Ohio State's campus in his freshman season.
In that 2024 freshman campaign, Smith hauled in 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 47 yards and a touchdown on six carries. He was a key offensive weapon for the Buckeyes as they went on to win the National Championship.
USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectHe followed it up with another strong season in 2024, catching 87 passes for 1,243 yards and 12 touchdowns, along with 21 yards and a touchdown on three carries on the ground. Smith was named an All-American and finished sixth in Heisman voting.
With his great track record and elite ability on the field, Smith is one of the top players for the 2027 NFL Draft.
In Fox Sports' latest mock draft, Smith is projected to land with the New York Jets with the third overall pick.
Smith may be the best overall player in the 2027 NFL Draft class, but it is unlikely for a non-quarterback to be selected with the first overall pick. If Smith landed at three, it would speak to his value, and he could instantly be impactful to a franchise.
Ohio State has developed multiple top wide receivers in recent years, including Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Carnell Tate, Emeka Egbuka, and Garrett Wilson. Smith may be the best of all the star wideouts and could become a top receiver in the NFL.
The Buckeyes will need to utilize Smith heavily in the offense in pursuit of another National Championship, and they will see him be selected early in the 2027 NFL Draft.
