According to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, Angelo Smith, the 2027 three-star ATH, and brother of current Buckeye superstar, Jeremiah Smith has officially committed to Ohio State.
Smith had fielded offers from several schools such as Miami, Oklahoma State, Toledo, and Georgia State, but he wanted to keep it in the family by staying in Columbus.
It seems very unlikely that Smith would team up with his brother, given that Jeremiah would be draft eligible. With how well his brother has done in college, don’t be surprised if he forgoes his senior season.
He’s a scrappy type of player, standing at only 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds and spent his high school sophomore season in 2024 mainly playing safety for Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Florida.
During that season, he amassed 40 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and three interceptions.
What’s impressive about his game though is his speed, and it’s no wonder why he’s leaving his position open for discussion. In his freshman season, he played a lot of running back, and managed to slip through defenders with ease by using his speed bursts that make it hard for him to tackle.
But that speed can be used really effectively as a free safety, making up for any potential blown coverage that may have ensued.
But he can be used in any other way. Cornerback can be enticing, but so is wide receiver, but only in the slot.
His size does seem to be a bit of a concern if he attempts at being an outside receiver, which is why lining up in the slot, he can use his speed to generate explosive plays.
Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting class is already off to a hot start. It has already secured commitments from four-star ATH and Dayton native Jamier Brown and four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds.
It’s on the heels of having the ninth-ranked 2026 class via 247Sports, where the Buckeyes have commitments from Chris Henry Jr., Blaine Bradford, Kayden Dixon-Watt, Sam Greer, and several other four-star recruits.
However, in today’s day of college football, the recruiting process doesn’t end after the commitment. Programs across the country are going to attempt to poach players and commits until the pen officially hits paper.
But with Smith already having a good idea of how Ohio State runs, don’t be surprised if he’s locked all the way into the Brotherhood.
Be on the lookout for more Ohio State recruiting news, as 2027 recruits are going to start committing to schools.
Roundtable’s Dylan Feltovich recently wrote about how the Buckeyes are in the mix for two elite ‘27 recruits which you can check it out here.
