Ticket prices for the Ohio State and USC matchup on Saturday night continue to plummet just over 24 hours until kickoff.
Ohio State and USC are set to meet in what could be the highlight game of the Saturday slate of college football.
These are two teams that are playing for their lives in a game that feels like it is do-or-die, definitely for the Trojans but also for the Buckeyes in some senses. Ohio State can afford a loss to stay alive in the College Football Playoff conversation.
However, a loss there signals that there are some major issues with the team without their starting quarterback.
The intrigue for both teams is through the roof. The two brands are a couple of the most historic in the history of college football; the scene is the Los Angeles Coliseum, and the attention on this game should be at a fever pitch.
With all of that said, ticket prices are plummeting as we approach 24 hours until kickoff.
There are a couple of guesses as to why this is the reality, and it is a trend happening across all of college football that is signalling a theme with this.
First, USC had an incredibly disappointing loss to Wisconsin just last week. The Trojans went to Madison in a really tough night environment in a game they needed, and they got beat up by the Badgers from start to finish.
It was a major upset loss to begin with, and the way that it happened was incredibly discouraging on many levels. If that game against Wisconsin were played 10 times, the Badgers would have won 8 or 9 of them without question. That was how thorough the beatdown was last Saturday.
That certainly dampened the excitement around USC Football and, more so, their ability to get the job done against Ohio State.
That brings me to the second part of my theory: everyone knows what is about to happen in the Coliseum on Saturday night. The Buckeyes are just too physical, no matter who is playing quarterback, for the Trojans to compete with.
The writing is on the wall. USC's season is on the brink, and frankly, so is the Lincoln Riley era, against one of the best teams in the entire country. It is a major uphill battle, and the fans all see it too.
They are all hitting the eject button for what should be one of the hottest tickets in town. It is more appealing to be at home, have all of the games at your fingertips, and not spend thousands of dollars just to watch the season get beat.
Ohio State fans everywhere rejoice as they can now get in for the cost of a case of beer in Ohio.
