Here are the biggest takeaways from the Ohio State Buckeyes massive victory over Grambling State in week two.

After knocking off the former No. 1 team in the nation last week, the Ohio State Buckeyes continued their dominate play into week two against the Grambling State Tigers, 70-0.

Often times, it can be tough to make assumptions about a team in these non-conference matchups. However, there were multiple takeaways from Saturday's contest that fans should be excited for heading into the remainder of the season.

Julian Saying Thrives With Expanded Playbook

If you weren't already sold on redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin after defeating Texas, his performance against Grambling State should completely reassure the fanbase.

In his second start for the Buckeyes, Sayin completed 18 of his 19 pass attempts for 306 yards and four touchdowns, with his only incompletion being an interception in the second quarter. Obviously, his stats will be taken with a grain of salt due to the opponent, however, this was an important game for Sayin, as the training wheels were taken off him on Saturday.

Some of the quick glimpses of impressive throws that fans saw in week one turned into a frequent occurrence this week. This included multiple tight-window throws, throwing with anticipation and his overall accuracy.

Sayin would go on to play in only the first half of the contest, with backup quarterback Lincoln Kienholz taking over for him in the second half. But the young gunslinger has gone above-and-beyond my expectations for him through two games, which is a great sign for the program moving forward.

Ohio State's Defense Continues Dominate Stretch

The Buckeyes' defense was one of the biggest storylines from the program's first game, and it was once again a huge factor on Saturday.

Outside of holding the Tigers to just zero points, Ohio State finished with nine tackles for losses, two sacks two forced fumbles and two interceptions. In addition to the highlight plays, the Buckeyes also held Grambling State's defense to 93 passing yards and 72 passing yards.

It's easy to say that the defense dominated on Saturday, but it was the newest starters that showed promise. Senior defensive end Caden Curry played a key role on the defensive attack in week two, as he ended with four tackles and one sack. With the entire defensive line gone for Ohio State last season, having players like Curry step up early in the season is huge for the program.

Running Back Bo Jackson Makes Name For Himself

Along with the defense losing a slew of starters from the 2024-25 season, the Buckeyes' running back room was also decimated by the NFL Draft. This became a key issue for head coach Ryan Day's squad heading into this season, with CJ Donaldson and James People being the top rusher this year.

However, fans got their first look at freshman running back Bo Jackson on Saturday, as he proved to be one of the hidden gems in the team's 2025 recruiting class. Jackson ended the contest with nine carries for 98 yards and one touchdowns, including a breakaway 51-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Ohio State's run game was underwhelming against Texas in week one, with Donaldson and Peoples being held to a combined 87 rushing yards on 29 carries. Luckily for the offense, Jackson showed his big-play ability that could be a factor throughout the season. Do not be surprised if Day and offensive coordinator Brian Hartline give more opportunities to the young talent.
