The Ohio State Buckeyes have held the top spot in the country over the past 30 seasons in the BCS and CFP era.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have been on a truly unprecedented run over the past 30 seasons of college football.
They currently hold a 302-61 record, which is the best in all of America in this era of college football.
"This era" of college is the BCS and College Football Playoff era, which the Buckeyes have truly dominated. Not only do they have the best record, but they have nearly 20 more wins than the second-place Boise State Broncos, who are 286-75.
The next closest true Big Ten team, not the new Big Ten, but the true Big Ten is the Michigan Wolverines, who trail Ohio State by almost 60 victories.
Since 1998, the Buckeyes have averaged 10.7 wins and 1.7 losses per year. That includes the 6-6 year in 1999 and a 6-7 year under Luke Fickell in 2011.
Since 1998, they have had 20 different double-digit win seasons and missed out on a surefire 10-plus win season in 2020 when they only played 8 games and went 7-1.
That COVID year stopped a double-digit win streak that would be 14 straight years. The only time in the new millennium that they had less than 10 wins in a legitimate year was that 2011 season after Jim Tressel was forced to resign.
Ohio State has been the gold standard of college football. They really don't do anything in a mediocre fashion.
They are the best recruiting program in the country, they are the best development team in the country for both players and coaches, they execute better than everyone, and the program simply does doesnt stop.
What has been built in Columbus was built to last without question.
Ever since Ryan Day took over from Urban Meyer, who resurrected the program, he has somehow taken it to a new level. Day's 82-12 is a .872 win percentage, which is jockeying between first and second all-time behind Notre Dame's Knute Rockne.
The Buckeyes have built their program for sustained success in both the short term and the long term. This has been the true golden age of Ohio State football, and it is not slowing down anytime soon.
