Ohio State has its eye on one 2028 QB prospect, and he should have Buckeye fans fired up.
The Ohio State Buckeyes' 2028 recruiting class likely has the quarterback of the future in it.
Just with the way timing is going to shake out, the hope is that the Buckeyes get a great year out of Julian Sayin this year and then he passes the baton to Tavien St. Clair for the 2027 season.
St. Clair will be draft-eligible after 2027, but let's play devil's advocate and say that he stays back in college for the 2028 year.
That would mean that there would be an open quarterback competition, and whoever the Buckeyes go with in the 2028 recruiting class at the QB position will likely have the inside track to win the job and own it for at least three seasons.
We are projecting way out into the future for sure, but if this dream scenario does come true, whoever wins the 2028 Buckeyes' QB offer will have a chance to cement himself as one of the great quarterbacks in Columbus.
One of those targets is five star prospect, Christopher Vargas.
Vargas was on campus just two weeks ago for Ohio State's high school camp, and he was ripping the ball all over the field. Being that he is just going into his junior year, it is very clear that he hasn't quite grown into his body yet.
He has a lot of maturing left to do, but what he doesn't lack is the pure ability to rip the football down the field. He is an imposing figure standing at 6'4" with a haircut that adds on about seven inches to the top of his head.
He looks the part, and if things go right, he could be the next great Buckeye quarterback.
In his first year at the helm of St. John's Prep School, he threw for just 1,311 yards but cashed in for 17 touchdowns to just two interceptions. That is a typical stat line for a first-year starter and one that he will absolutely grow significantly in the years to come.
Vargas is a multi-sport athlete who runs track and plays baseball in the springtime. To this day, he has a total of 21 offers to his name. The Buckeyes submitted their offer to him on November 30, 2024. Nearly 18 months ago, while he was still a freshman in high school.
Vargas is a five-star quarterback according to 247Sports, who is the No. 7 player nationally, the No. 1 quarterback, and the No. 1 player in Massachusetts.
If Buckeye fans are lucky enough, one day he will be under center in the Scarlet and Gray.
