Ohio State head coach Ryan Day brought a new name to the Ohio State quarterback position.

If you thought that the Ohio State quarterback room was just going to be a conversation between Julian Sayin and Tavien St. Clair, you would have been just like me.

Sayin is by far and away the starter for the Buckeyes, and for the last five months, Tavien St. Clair has been the clear number two. That changed on Saturday afternoon.

Buckeyes' head coach Ryan Day met with the media and kicked off the second full week of training camp. In his media availability, he discussed the Buckeyes' quarterback competition, specifically the battle for the backup spot.

Day said, "Luke got his black stripe off today. He's really been doing a great job. He's putting a lot of pressure on Tavien; he really is. They are competing; he has been making plays... that's been exciting to see him come in with a certain work ethic and run the offense at a pretty high level."

Day is no stranger to talking about players like this, but what is new is the fact that he just flat-out said that he is putting pressure on Tavien for the backup spot. That is not something that he typically does, and it is certainly something to note.

Fahey is a three-star freshman recruit from California who has come into camp without fear. Even though he stands at just 5'11", he is known to be a really good and effective pocket passer with good, not great, athleticism.

The Buckeyes have always had an incredibly star-studded quarterback room. JT was a four-star, Cardale Jones was a four-star, Justin Fields was a five-star, CJ Stroud was a five-star, Julian Sayin was a five-star, and so was St. Clair.

The last three-star quarterback recruit to take the field for the Buckeyes was Will Howard, and we all know how that ended up.

Typically, the backup quarterback position battle isn't much to talk about, but for the Buckeyes, this is a very important battle. In the event that Sayin were to come up with some kind of injury, the Buckeyes cannot take a step back at quarterback.

This team is ready to win a National Championship, and a quarterback injury cannot derail the season.

Beyond that, this is also a competition for the inside track on the starting position next season. When Sayin heads to the NFL, the next guy has to take the baton and continue the storied Buckeyes tradition.

We didn't have any quarterback drama until now, and now we have a battle to monitor.
