Buckeyes Freshmen Take to Social Media After Meltdown Loss to Texas

The dust has totally settled from Saturday's meltdown loss to the Texas Longhorns but the issues have not. 

There are a lot of directions to point the finger at Ohio State: from Ryan Day to Arthur Smith to Matt Patricia to Julian Sayin and so on. A lot of people made mistakes, and it is very likely that the Buckeyes are going to learn from this slip-up and be ready to make a run throughout the rest of the season.

While all of the problems that appeared on Saturday were significant, they are completely fixable. Someone forgot to tell that to the freshman class.

On Sunday and Monday, three Buckeye freshmen took to social media and, in posts from their account, said some version of them wanting to be "freed." 

Running back Legend Bey got the party started with a picture on his Instagram that said "Free duece" next to a picture of him on the sideline. 

On Instagram, freshman Jerquaden Guilford followed suit on Monday. He posted a picture on his story of himself going through warmups against Texas with the caption, "ain (isn't) s*** (to) say, free6," hinting that he also needs to be freed.

Finally, in a less aggressive fashion, wide receiver Brock Boyd posted a route that he ran in which he killed his defender but didn't receive the ball. He didn't drop a comment on it, but it definitely sparked a conversation about getting him touches in real games, not just the games where the Buckeyes are heavily favored.

There are a lot of directions this could go, but the one that stands out is that this doesn't feel like a Ryan Day program. The Buckeyes under Day have always kept things in-house and buttoned up, especially with the young players.

Bey has now been a Buckeye for two weeks and has stood out negatively twice. Against Ball State, he had one really nice run where he juked out nearly the entire defense to score. That was sandwiched between two of the worst and borderline selfish kick returns. The first to start the game was understandable. A young freshman, too excited to make a big play, and you get it.

Then, in the second quarter, he did it again and set the Buckeyes up on their own 10-yard line to start the two-minute drill. This week, he posted on his personal social media account that he needs to be freed. Both positive and negative things have clues.

For Guilford, he is a 6'3" four-star recruit who has obviously not gotten any chance at this point to take the field. He was passed over by Boyd and Chris Henry Jr. in that freshman room, and he is feeling it.

For Boyd, the hope is that he is just posting a really cool route that he ran. For now, we can give him the benefit of the doubt.

This is a really weird thing that is happening to Day's Buckeyes, and it is uncharacteristic of his teams. He will likely get it taken care of. I don't expect this to become a team-wide thing, but it is definitely the first crack in the dam. 

I'd be willing to be that Day patches it up nicely and makes this all a mute point.
