The Ohio State Buckeyes have been hot on the tail of their potential future quarterback, and on Tuesday, they got major news.
The next quarterback that Ohio State lands has the opportunity to be an all-time great. With the way that the room is shaping out, if things go well this year and next, the position will be up for grabs in the 2028 season.
The winner of that quarterback competition, if he is a young player, might get two or three years at the helm of the Buckeyes' program, which could turn into a name littered throughout the record books.
I'm skipping a lot of steps going from point A to point Z and making a lot of assumptions along the way, but the dream is out there for one young player.
That player could very likely be 2028 recruit Christopher Vargas.
Vargas is a five-star recruit from the Northeast who appears to have all of the tools. He stands at 6'4", and after his sophomore season, he has a lot of maturing to do as he weighs in at just 175 pounds right now.
It will be music to many Buckeye fans' ears to know that Vargas has the potential to be a dual-threat star. He is a multisport athlete who also competes in track and field. He competes in the sprint portion of track and field along with long jump, both of which are great for explosiveness.
Vargas has all of the tools to be potentially the next great Buckeye legend. On Tuesday, that dream started to materialize. Ohio State received two crystal ball predictions for Vargas to Ohio State.
Both Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons from On3 and Rivals predicted that Vargas is going to soon commit to the Buckeyes.
Those two rarely miss when it comes to their predictions, so this is incredible news for the Buckeyes.
Every great program is driven by a great quarterback, and for the Buckeyes, they are on about their 15th straight year of a top-of-the-line college quarterback, and if they land Vargas, they will extend that timeline a few more.
Ryan Day and the Buckeyes program have it rolling like clockwork right now. They win all fall long, and then in the offseason, recruiting is "easy" because they have already put the hard work in.
The true ball players want to win. They don't want the cars and the money and the jewelry. That comes with winning. What they want is to become a great football player and go to the NFL.
That is done in Columbus, Ohio, and Ohio State might get its hands on yet another great player.
