Ohio State's Injury Report for Saturday's Game against Maryland is lengthy and filled with several key players.
The Ohio State Buckeyes' injury report for Saturday is pretty lengthy, and for the first time all season, it features a lot of key Buckeyes who have both been trending positively and making key impacts for the team.
The players that are listed a "out" have yet to make an impact on the roster, so that is the good news for the team. The bad news for the team is that the "doubtful" list is lengthy.
Buckeyes with the "Doubtful" tag are wide receiver Brandon Inniss, linebacker Christian Alliegro, freshman defensive lineman Khary Wilder and tackle Phillip Daniels.
On the "Probable" report are wide receiver Devin McCuin and freshman defensive back Jay Timmons.
There is a lot to unpack with this one because this is the first time that the Buckeyes have really had to deal with multiple injuries at key positions. On defense, the door is going to open up for some guys to both have an opportunity to make plays and the responsibility to uphold the standard on that side of the ball.
Alliegro is the main name that stands out on the defense. He has been a consistent name at the outside linebacker spot for the Buckeyes and has been improving week over week. He will be replaced by Riley Pettijohn and TJ Alford filtering in.
The big-time bummer on that side of the ball is the injury to Khary Wilder. Wilder has been a guy who has been an absolute bright spot for the Buckeyes. He hasn't gotten enough playing time to this point in the season, but when he is in, he is a complete menace to block. He rushes with an unlimited motor and doesn't stop until the play is made.
On offense, it is the two wide receivers who popped up on the report this week; Devin McCuin was starting to find his rhythm at the receiver position underneath Jeremiah Smith. McCuin was the player that head coach Ryan Day said was "as good as anyone" who has played wide receiver in Columbus, and he was just starting to scratch that surface.
Brandon Inniss, on the other hand, has looked like the exact same receiver from years past. He is absolutely a possession receiver who lacks any solid traits at all. However, when the chips are down and the Buckeyes need to move the chains, he is the guy they look for.
The real disappointment of the year has been the injury to tackle Phillip Daniels. Daniels started the year as the starting right tackle and has fought this nagging injury for the past month. It is unfortunate to say that, if it hasn't already happened, he is in danger of losing his position because of his injury.
Saturday's injury report is a lengthy one, and it will open up the opportunity for some other guys to step in and step up against Maryland. We will see who takes advantage.
