Jeremiah Smith's quest for the Ohio State All-Time Triple Crown might come to an end against Iowa

My original prediction was that Jeremiah Smith would break all of Ohio State's top wide receiver records by week six against the Maryland Terrapins.

I may have been just a week short because everything that he is chasing is well within reach heading into Saturday's huge matchup against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Smith is going to go down as the best wide receiver in Ohio State history by both the eye test and in the stat book. He is on the verge of owning the Ohio State All-Time Triple Crown as the leader in receiving yards, most catches, and touchdowns.

Barring injury, it is truly a "when" conversation opposed to an "if" conversation, and the only if that can be discussed is whether it will happen this week or next.

After he blew the doors off the stadium last week with his 12-catch, 217-yard, four-touchdown day against Illinois, he now sits just 1 touchdown and nine catches away from taking over all three of the records.

The best part about last Saturday is just how easy he made everything look. Every single time that Julian Sayin dropped back to pass and looked in Smith's direction, the feeling was that he was going to be wide open, and if he wasn't that he was still going to come down with the football.

There were a couple of clips down by the endzone that Smith was getting double- and triple-teamed, but it still wasn't enough to totally stop him.

He is truly a one-of-a-kind player, one of the likes we will never see again at Ohio State or in college football at all.

For this upcoming week, he would certainly trade it all in if it meant that the Buckeyes got the win against Iowa. That's the kind of player and teammate he is, even at his caliber.

Good news for him is that the Buckeyes are going to need every bit of him playing at his highest level for them to get the win over Iowa.

The Hawkeyes will be the Buckeyes' second stiffest test so far this year. All things considered, this might be their toughest Big Ten game on the schedule. The Hawkeyes are going to be flying high (no pun intended) after their crazy walk-off win over the Michigan Wolverines last week.

Even before that, they are simply a really good team, and for the first time in several years, they have an offense to go along with their defense. The Buckeyes have a stiff test on their hands.

If the game stays close, don't be surprised if Jeremiah Smith makes a ninth and tenth catch during this game to overtake his former teammate Emeka Egbuka as the greatest Buckeyes' wide receiver to ever put on the Scarlet and Gray.
