Budding Ohio State star Devin Sanchez makes bold prediction about his season next year.
Future Buckeye star Devin Sanchez has very high expectations for himself next year. On Wednesday at The Memorial Golf Tournament, Sanchez made quite a prediction.
He said, "I'm going to be one of the best corners in the nation." He followed that up by saying that this "isn't freshman Devin anymore" and that he is ready to go for his second year.
Sanchez is a really exciting prospect for the Buckeyes next year. Just as Ohio State has been wide receiver university over the past decade, they can also consider themselves DB university, too.
There has been a very good collection of defensive backs who have made their name at Ohio State, and Sanchez is next in line.
Sanchez is the prototypical body type to play cornerback in the modern day of college football. He stands at 6'2" and weighs in just south of 200 pounds. He is long, lanky, and super athletic.
As his basketball intelligence continues to improve, he is just going to become more and more of a lockdown corner.
Last year, he actually had a decent role on the Buckeyes incredible defense. He appeared in nine games last year, including both College Football Playoff games, and he appeared in the opening game against the Texas Longhorns.
In between those, he had his biggest production against the Illinois Fighting Illini, where he had five tackles and one pass breakup.
His introduction to the 2026 season happened during the Spring Game when, on the first series, he broke up two passes intended for Jeremiah Smith and had everyone turning their heads.
Not only does he have the potential to be great, but it is also going to be the expectation for him next year. He has some big shoes to fill on a defense that lost a lot of its contributing players from last year.
Sanchez will fill the shoes of Davison Igbinosun as the No. 1 corner on the Buckeyes' defense, and his game will have to reflect as such.
For now, Sanchez can talk about it, but in a few short months, he is going to have to be about it, and there is nothing to make anyone believe that he doesn't have what it takes to get it done.
