Former Ohio State Buckeye Carnell Tate debates USC wide receiver Amon Ra St. Brown on who is actually Wide Receiver U.
At this point, it is a conversation of two. The debate of who is the best school of wide receivers is between Ohio State and LSU.
The top players in the NFL for the past ten seasons have come from either one of those two schools.
For Buckeye fans, it is clearly a title that goes to Ohio State. The names that have come out of Columbus and have advanced on to become great in the league are incredible. In just recent history, it is Mike Thomas, Terry McLaurin, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Emeka Egbuka, to name a couple of guys.
For LSU, the list is equally impressive.
It goes back to over a decade ago when Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry were the gold standard at the wide receiver position. Those two guys became JaMarr Chase and Justin Jefferson, who have been the best wide receivers in football for the last five years.
Along with those two are Malik Nabers, Bryan Thomas Jr., and Kayshon Boutte, to name just the top guys.
The LSU discussion is very top-heavy, and rightfully so. The best Tigers and very, very good. Ohio State's top guys might not consistently reach those levels, but the depth is a little bit better. Also important to note is that the Buckeyes' list is going to get a ton better over the next three years with Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith.
On Wednesday, Tate joined the St. Brown podcast, and he and Amon Ra got into a small debate about who is the rightful Wide Receiver U.
They listed off the names, and St. Brown was clearly trying to be the devil's advocate. It didn't much matter because his arguments kind of fell flat on their face.
They got into discussing the comparisons with LSU and even a little bit of Alabama. St. Brown tried to throw USC into the conversation, but that fell flat on its face, quickly.
It is a fun debate, but the weight is leaning more and more in favor of the Buckeyes. The receivers that have come out of Columbus over the past ten years have been nothing short of incredible, and it is only getting better.
If the race is neck and neck right now, it will very soon be taken over by the Buckeyes as the best producer of wide receivers in the country.
In five years from now, it will be curious to know if that is still the case or if there is a fall-off after Brian Hartline's departure. Time will tell, but for now, the Buckeyes are at the top.
