Dallas Cowboys Could Make Blockbuster Trade for Ohio State Star cover image

The fit for Ohio State star Caleb Downs on the Dallas Cowboys seems almost too good to be true, but the Cowboys may have to pay up to go get him.

Caleb Downs to the Dallas Cowboys seems like a match made in Heaven.

The only issue is that there is a growing belief that Downs isn't going to make it to them at pick No. 12.

On Friday, a hypothetical trade surfaced where the Cowboys and the Cleveland Browns find common ground on a deal that moves the Cowboys up to pick No. 6, in exchange for their 12th pick and the 20th pick, which they got for Micah Parsons.

The trade for Cleveland makes a ton of sense, as it gives them three first-round picks, but is Downs' worth the investment for the Cowboys?

Early reports from draft experts are a resounding yes.

It's no secret in Columbus just how good Caleb Downs is at playing football. He is a very special talent that matches size, speed, quickness, and physicality with a football IQ that cannot be matched. He is elite inside the white lines, and he is one of the most mature 21-year-olds outside the white lines.

Downs is as close to you can get to being a home run draft pick aned whoever gets him is getting a game changer in their program the second he walks into it.

As mock drafts start to surface, Downs is projected to go as high as pick No. 7 to the Washington Commanders and as low as No. 12 to the Cowboys.

In my opinion, Downs' ceiling is pick No. 2 to the New York Jets and his floor is pick No. 9 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

If the Jets really wanted to, they could select Downs with the No. 2 overall pick, and I truthfully do not think that anyone would even flinch. Sure, they could take Arvell Reese and hit a home run, or they could snag Downs.

If Downs gets past the Titans at No. 4, then the Browns' No. 6 pick becomes the very obvious trade partner. The Giants are going to take a wide receiver at No. 5, and the Browns need so much more that more picks are more valuable than selecting a guy at No. 6.

Dallas would need to make a move because if they don't, they risk the Commanders, their NFC East rival, taking Downs at No. 7.

If, in some fairytale scenario, he drops past 7, he just simply isn't making it past New Orleans, Kansas City, or Cincinnati. The truth is that he makes each one of those teams a playoff team next season.

The Downs' hype is just beginning, and it is only going to pick up steam. If Dallas wants him, they are going to have to pay up to get him, but he will be well worth the investment.
