It's official: all levels of football are finally back, and we are fully in the swing of things.
For Buckeye fans everywhere, Sunday is typically a great day. They relive a scarlet and gray win from the day before, watch their favorite team play, and keep their eyes peeled for the numerous Ohio State alumni making an impact around the league.
Former Buckeye wide receivers were all over it in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. From the East Coast to the West Coast, "Wide Receiver U" was on full display.
A few older veterans held their own, while Justin Fields, battling his former team, headlined the entire weekend.
Stat line: 4 receptions, 67 yards, 2 TDs
Emeka Egbuka played in his first NFL game in Atlanta, where he had his final college football game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Egbuka and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fought through Baker Mayfield's slow start and turned out a huge win over the Atlanta Falcons. Egbuka was integral in turning Mayfield's day around.
His first touchdown catch was the "exhale," and his second score came with just 59 seconds remaining. According to Mike Evans, Egbuka called his shot and came through for the Bucs.
Stat line: 9 receptions, 124 yards
Jaxon Smith-Njigba wasted no time catapulting to the top of the league on Sunday. He got off to a fast start and never looked back, finishing the Seattle Seahawks' rivalry game with nine catches for 124 yards.
The second-year wideout was Sam Darnold's favorite target by far. His performance didn't result in a victory, but it was an impressive start to the season.
Stat line: 5 receptions, 71 yards, TD
Marvin Harrison Jr. started Year 2 on the right foot, as he and Kyler Murray already appear to be on the same page in 2025. In the Arizona Cardinals' win over Chris Olave and the New Orleans Saints, Harrison hauled in five catches for 71 yards and his first touchdown as a sophomore pro.
Up in Cleveland, Cleveland Browns veteran cornerback Denzel Ward did what he does best: shut down elite receivers.
Against Joe Burrow and a high-powered Cincinnati Bengals offense, Ward and the Browns held their in-state foe to only 113 yards in the air. Ja'Marr Chase only had two catches for 26 yards. In his eighth season, Ward is still one of the best cornerbacks in football.
Up four with under a minute to go, the Seahawks had the ball inside San Francisco's 10-yard line, trying to win the game. Darnold dropped back to pass and was met in the backfield by Nick Bosa. Bosa didn't just sack him; he stripped the ball and recovered the fumble to seal the game for the 49ers.
Stat line: 16-for-22, 218 yards, TD | 12 carries, 48 yards, 2 TDs
Justin Fields had a chance at revenge on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he was up to the task. Fields finished the day 16 of 22 for 218 yards and one touchdown through the air to go with 12 carries for 48 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
He was special for the Jets, but it wasn't quite enough as Aaron Rodgers was even more impressive against his former team
Many former Buckeyes made their presence felt on Sunday at the start of the NFL season, and it won't be the only time we see it this year.
