NFL Draft Authority Dane Brugler names the Dallas Cowboys as a team that would be willing to spend some capital to come get Caleb Downs.

Caleb Downs is one of the four Ohio State Buckeyes that the entire NFL would want on their roster. It is Sonny Styles, Arvell Reese, and even Carnell Tate who are guys that are NFL-ready and would immediately make an impact on a team.

Whoever lands Downs is going to get a player who is only a rookie by age. He is mature beyond his years, and he plays the game as if he has already been in the NFL for years.

The only issue for some of the teams that want him is simply the fact that he is going to go in the top-10.

One of those teams that is on the outside looking in for Downs is the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys currently sit at pick No. 12, and if they stay put, they are not going to have a chance at Downs.

They may be forced to make a move to go get him, and it will be expensive.

One of the teams that they could target as a legitimate trade partner is the Cleveland Browns at pick No. 6. The Browns are in a bit of limbo right now, as they need so many draft assets to fill in all of the holes on their roster that, if given the opportunity and the right price, they could strike a deal.

That would slide the Cowboys one spot ahead of the Washington Commanders, who are their division rivals.

If Downs were to find his way to Dallas, it would mark the best four-year stretch of football anyone has ever played. He would go from the Alabama Crimson Tide to the Ohio State Buckeyes to the Dallas Cowboys.

You could argue that he played for the three biggest brands in the sport of football, period.

Not only did he play for the big brands, but he was the best player at his first two spots, and the expectation is that that would be the case at his third stop.

The good part for Downs is that he is likely going to a contending team.

If he falls beyond the Commanders at pick No. 7, then he will be staring down either the Bengals, the Chiefs, or the Cowboys. Three teams have yearly playoff expectations, and two of those three have yearly Super Bowl expectations.

Wherever Downs ends up landing, he will become a leader on that team right away. He will be such an addition to the locker room, and he will be a guy who will lead a defense for several years to come.

The only question is, will that team be the Dallas Cowboys or not?
