For Ohio State Buckeyes' star quarterback Julian Sayin, a combination of a perfect skillset and an incredible pass catching unit has helped him succeed so far this season.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have found yet another gem at the quarterback position in redshirt freshman Julian Sayin.

After being named the starting quarterback prior to the beginning of the 2025 college football season, the former five-star prospect has taken the opportunity to prove himself. Through two games this year, Sayin has thrown for 432 yards and five touchdowns, while also defeating the preseason No. 1 team in the nation in the Texas Longhorns.

Despite facing multiple challenges this season, Sayin continues to dominate with the help of proper preparation and a talented pass catching core at his disposal.

When asked if there were any defenses that surprised him in his first two games, Sayin told reporters on Wednesday that he is prepared for anything the opposing defense throws at him thanks to the team game planning earlier in the week.

“Yeah, there have definitely been wrinkles in coverages, but we prepare for that," Sayin stated. "We go into our Thursday and Friday and we talk about ‘hey, what if we don’t get the look we’re looking for? What are we going to do then?’ It is kind of the what’s next scenario."

In his first ever colligate start, Sayin did an excellent job of playing within the structure of offense against one of the best defenses in college football. He would go on to complete 13 of his 20 pass attempts, while also throwing for 126 yards and one touchdown.

Luckily for Sayin, the daunting task of starting for the reigning National Championship becomes a lot easier with his incredible wide receiver corps.

“It’s awesome because the receivers, they’re all very selfless," Sayin said when asked about his relationship with his wide receivers. "They are not someone who’s going to come off yelling at you if you don’t see them or if you miss them, so it is good. We have conversations on the sidelines like ‘hey, this is what I saw’ and then they tell me what they saw and we are able to move on, work from there and find a way to get them the ball in the next drive.”

Ohio State's dynamic wide receiver duo of sophomore Jeremiah Smith and junior Carnell Tate have been on full display this season. Smith got off to a quiet start to the season, but has still managed to tally 11 catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns through two games.

As for Tate, the veteran pass catcher played a key role in the program's week one victory, recording two catches for 49 yards and one touchdown in the second half to extend the Buckeyes' lead to 14.

Sayin's incredible play in Ohio State's first two games has clearly given the coaching staff enough confidence in the young talent to perform on a weekly basis. Head coach Ryan Day told reporters on Wednesday that they are getting a good feel of his skill set as he continues to play.

“You find what fits his skill set, take all the pieces and put them all together," Day said. "He gets the ball out fast, I think we are getting a good feel for that as he’s getting on the field and playing more.”

Sayin and the Buckeyes are set to take on the Ohio Bobcats in week three for the program's final non-conference matchup of the season.
