Ohio State tight end Will Kacmarek was the day two surprise as he was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the NFL Draft's third round.
Ohio State tight end Will Kacmarek was projected to be a sixth or seventh round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Instead, Kacmarek was selected in the third round by the Miami Dolphins.
Miami has a plethora of selections so they can afford to take a risk, but in terms of overdrafts, this is a selection that might stand out amongst the rest.
Kacmarek is an incredible story coming out of the state of Ohio. He began his college career at Ohio University, where he spent the first three years of his college career. After his years at Ohio, he transferred to Ohio State for the final two years of his eligibility.
At Ohio State, Kacmarek finished with just 23 catches for 254 yards and two touchdowns. 2025 was his best season, where he had 15 catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns.
While Kacmarek isn't the best receiving tight end, he is truly one of the best blockers available. There were several times in 2024 and 2025 when he looked like an extension of the offensive line, both on the right and left side of the line of scrimmage.
Head coach Ryan Day released a quote saying that the Dolphins are getting the best blocking tight end in the "entire country," while saying that he is a "reliable" player who can be relied upon in the pass and run game.
At the NFL level, Kacmarek has a very specific, but limited fit in the NFL. He truly is a wild card when it comes to the pass game while being a major asset in the run game.
For the Dolphins as a third-round pick, Kacmarek is going to be relied upon to be a consistent player for the struggling organization next year and beyond.
Miami is in a mode right now where they are resetting their entire roster and their entire organization. They are using the 2025 season to eat alot of the cap money that they invested in players like Jaylen Waddle and Tua Tougaviola.
2025 will be a lost year for the Dolphins but this draft needs to be a homerun for Miami. Time will tell if it will be, but this pick for Kacmarek is the biggest reach so far in the NFL Draft.
Let's hope that it works out in their favor.
