Ohio State superstar Jeremiah Smith made it on the big screen for the very first time in a very funny commercial.
Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith takes another step on his superstar trajectory. On Thursday, his new commercial with Battle was released, and spoiler alert, it is awesome.
Smith has started to break out of his shell over the past year, as he has matured from an 18-year-old star to a 20-year-old phenom. As Smith enters his final year in college before he is a top-5 pick in next year's NFL Draft, he finally lands his own commercial.
The commercial is fantastic because it is a call back to some of the best ESPN commercials of all time. ESPN's campaign in the early 2000s was that they brought sports stars into an office setting and had them interact with their "coworkers" without breaking character.
Smith's commercial is exactly that.
The scenes in the commercial were awesome. First, he is catching balls off the jugs machine in the office, he is flipping off the employee who has the blue and gold tie on, celebrating a "good release," and then keeping his employees at the office because they are "always open."
The commercial is a masterpiece, and frankly, Smith did a very good job in it. Buckeye fans know Smith well enough by now to know that he would rather keep to himself and just score a bunch of touchdowns on Saturdays. Something like this is out of his realm, but he crushed it, and the ad is going to be an all-time one.
For Smith, as his final year creeps closer, he is the face of this Buckeyes team and the face of all College Football. He has been the best wide receiver in the country since his freshman year, and he is going to need to pick up right where he left off in 2025.
The Buckeyes are going to need a massive year from Smith in his third and final year. For the first time in a long time, the Buckeyes' wide receiver room is a question mark going into the season.
Outside of him, they have a new position coach, they lost two five-star freshmen, and receivers 2-4 are all major question marks. Could they be great? Absolutely. Could Ohio State have taken too big a risk and fall flat on their face? Definitely.
The one constant is Smith. He needs to be great, and the Buckeyes will be just fine. As he said in the commercial, he is always open.
