Ohio State Buckeyes safety Caleb Downs is already making waves at the NFL level.
It didn't take more than a week, but Caleb Downs is already at the top of the charts at the NFL level.
Fanatics released the top jersey sales after last week's 2026 NFL Draft, and Downs new Cowboys gear is notched at the top of the list. The rookie class was pretty star-studded at least throughout the first round.
There are going to be several household names selected in this draft, and the hope is that Downs is one of them in Dallas.
Downs has literally played for three of the biggest brands in all of football. He started his college career at Alabama before transferring to Ohio State, which led to his being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys.
That's a pretty solid run of the three best places to play football at.
For Downs, his job is just beginning in Dallas. Whether he wants to believe it or not, he has an incredible responsibility already on the Dallas defense. The Cowboys have really been stuck in football purgatory over the last decade plus.
In the Dak Prescott era, they have had electric offenses but never a defense to boot. Prescott has always been at the top of the list at the quarterback position, and the Cowboys' offense is always in the top third of the league.
The defense on the other hand, not so much.
Last year, the Cowboys were dead last in the league, giving up 31 points per game, and were 29th in the league, giving up 377 yards per game. They were horrific, and Downs is the first piece of the puzzle to fix it all.
Caleb came to Dallas as one of the best defensive prospects in College Football last season. He was a special prospect and had it not been for his teammate Sonny Styles, he probably would have been viewed as the most complete prospect in the draft.
He is everything that a team could want in a player. He has all of the athletic traits a team could ever want; he plays with no fear, but he also has zero concerns off the field. From a character standpoint, he is as good and as clean as it comes. He is smart, mature, and intelligent beyond his years.
He is exactly what the Cowboys need in a prospect, and he could be the first piece in the puzzle to turning the entire defense around in Dallas.
