Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith is on the verge of Buckeye history in 2026 as he has a chance to rewrite the record books.
Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is dangerously close to rewriting the Buckeyes' wide receiver record books.
Heading into 2026, Smith is just 341 yards, 43 catches and nine touchdowns to become the statistically best wide receiver in the history of Ohio State.
From the moment that Smith stepped onto the field in 2024, he has been the best player to wear the Scarlet and Gray. In his very first game against the Akron Zips, he hauled in six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns to get it going.
Everything that Smith does is incredible. From a physical standpoint, he is everything that you could ever want. He stands at 6'3, tipping the scale over 220 pounds, but doesn't sacrifice an ounce of athleticism with his size.
He possesses both an unrivalled quickness and impressive straight-line speed. He tops it all with the best hands that I have ever seen a receiver have. He brings it all to the table, yet the most impressive part about him is that he has met all of the expectations that have been bestowed on him.
His freshman season was sensational, and then he took it to the next level last year and performed better than he did in year one.
In just 13 games, three fewer than in 2024, he hauled in more catches and marginally fewer yards and touchdowns. As he sits right now, he has 163 catches, 2,558 yards, and 29 touchdowns to his name in just 29 total games.
Nearly has one touchdown catch per game which is an insane thing to think.
Throughout his career, he averages 5.6 catches, 88.2 yards, and .9 touchdowns per game. With those averages, he is looking at needing at least nine weeks to grab the touchdown record, 8 games for the catch record, and just five games to break the yards record.
Compared to the schedule, these records will be in the hot seat once Big Ten play opens up in late September and early October.
The yards record is circled for the Iowa game on 10/3, the catch record is on watch out in Los Angeles against the USC Trojans in the final week of October, and then the touchdown record should fall in Columbus at home against the Oregon Ducks.
Regardless of when the records do or do not fall, Jeremiah Smith is going to be rewriting the record books in Columbus this year and remove any doubt as to who the best Buckeye wide receiver ever is.
