David Taylor and the Oklahoma State Wrestling Squad keep pushing and hammer Iowa State 24-9

STILLWATER, Okla. — The No. 5 Oklahoma State Cowboys stunned the No. 3 Iowa State Cyclones with a commanding 24-9 victory at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

A sold-out crowd of 10,002 witnessed OSU sweep the first seven bouts to build a 24-0 lead, securing the dual early in a key Big 12 matchup.

Iowa State salvaged points in the upper weights but couldn’t overcome the deficit, dropping to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while OSU improved to 12-1 and 7-0.  

The action started at 125 pounds with No. 7 Troy Spratley (OSU) edging No. 12 Stevo Poulin (ISU) 3-1 by decision.

Spratley built a 3-0 lead with penalty points and an escape, holding off Poulin despite a riding time point. 

At 133 pounds, Jax Forrest (OSU) dominated Osmany Diversent (ISU) with a 16-0 technical fall.

Forrest piled on points early, including multiple nearfalls, finishing in the second period. Iowa State’s Evan Frost was sidelined by injury.  

No. 2 Sergio Vega (OSU) delivered a thrilling 4-1 decision over No. 4 Anthony Echemendia (ISU) at 141 pounds.

Vega’s scrambling takedown with seconds remaining sealed the win after a defensive stalemate.  

Casey Swiderski (OSU), facing his former team, defeated Jacob Frost (ISU) 4-2 at 149 pounds.

Swiderski’s third-period takedown proved decisive amid emotional exchanges.  

Landon Robideau (OSU) claimed a 4-1 decision against Vinny Zerban (ISU) at 157 pounds, scoring a late takedown after a scoreless start. 

At 165 pounds, Dee Lockett (OSU) powered to a 12-3 major decision over Conner Euton (ISU), exploding with takedowns and nearfalls in the later periods. 

Alex Facundo (OSU) rounded out the lower-weight sweep with a 4-2 decision against MJ Gaitan (ISU) at 174 pounds, holding firm despite controversial calls. 

Iowa State broke through at 184 pounds as No. 12 Isaac Dean defeated Trevor Dopps (OSU) 5-1 by decision, adding a late takedown.  

No. 2 Rocky Elam (ISU) edged No. 7 Cody Merrill (OSU) 4-1 at 197 pounds in rideout overtime, capitalizing after grueling rides.  

The dual concluded at heavyweight with No. 1 Yonger Bastida (ISU) topping No. 7 Konner Doucet (OSU) 5-2 by decision, securing an early takedown and fending off a late rally.  

This upset solidifies Oklahoma State’s Big 12 dominance and highlights their lower-weight prowess, while Iowa State must regroup for upcoming challenges.
