Oklahoma State Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs get big time wins on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon
STILLWATER, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Men’s and Women’s teams secured huge Big 12 play victories over Kansas State and Iowa State respectively.
The Oklahoma State Men’s team kicked off the weekend with Saturday late night hoops (9:05PM tipoff) against Kansas State inside of Gallagher Iba Arena.
In a heart-pounding Big 12 showdown on Saturday night, the Cowboys secured a dramatic 84-83 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats.
The win boosted OSU to 14-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while KSU fell to 9-9 and 0-5 in the Big 12, marking their fifth straight league loss.
The game was a back-and-forth affair from tip-off, with the Cowboys holding a slim 48-43 lead at halftime thanks to strong interior play and timely shooting. Anthony Roy led the charge for OSU, pouring in a game-high 23 points on efficient shooting, including key buckets that kept the Cowboys afloat during KSU’s second-half surges.
Parsa Fallah contributed a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds, dominating the glass and providing second-chance opportunities.
Kanye Clary added 12 points and six assists, orchestrating the offense, while Andrija Vukovic chipped in 11 points on perfect 5-of-5 shooting.
The Wildcats fought valiantly, erasing deficits and taking an 81-81 tie late in the game.
But the decisive moment came with 2.8 seconds remaining. Sophomore Vyctorius Miller, nephew of rapper Master P, was fouled on a corner three-point attempt by KSU’s Abdi Bashir.
Miller calmly sank all three free throws, giving OSU an 84-83 lead.
KSU’s final heave fell short, sealing the Cowboys’ triumph before 6,838 roaring fans.
This nail-biter showcased OSU’s “never say die” attitude under coach Steve Lutz, bouncing back from recent setbacks. For KSU, the loss extends a frustrating start to Big 12 action, highlighting their struggles in close games.
The Cowboys now look ahead to build momentum in a competitive conference. They’ll head to Fort Worth to face TCU on Tuesday.
The Oklahoma State Cowgirls and head coach Jacie Hoyt secured a huge win over No. 19 Iowa State on Sunday afternoon.
The Cowgirls dismantled the No. 19 Iowa State Cyclones 86-58 and it was never a game.
The victory propelled OSU to 16-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play, marking their third straight league win, while ISU dropped to 14-5 and 2-5, extending their losing streak to five games.
OSU blew the doors off Iowa State from the outset, particularly in the second quarter where they outscored the Cyclones 30-13 to build a 43-21 halftime lead.
The Cowgirls maintained control, stretching the margin to as much as 31 points, showcasing superior shooting (44% FG, 38% from three with 14 makes) and rebounding (42-32 edge).
They forced 17 turnovers, converting them into easy buckets, while dishing out 25 assists on fluid offense.
A key factor was OSU’s suffocating defense on Iowa State’s star center Audi Crooks, who was held to just 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting with four turnovers, well below her season average and impact as the NCAA’s active leader in consecutive double-figure games (85).
Crooks grabbed seven rebounds but couldn’t dominate inside against OSU’s physical frontcourt, led by Achol Akot and Praise Egharevba.
Sophomore Stailee Heard starred with a historic triple-double: 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists, the first of her career and third in program history.
Haleigh Timmer added 16 points, Micah Gray contributed 15 (4-of-7 from deep), and Lena Girardi chipped in 11 off the bench.
For ISU, Crooks and Jada Williams each scored 15, but the team shot poorly from the line (58%) and lacked rhythm.
Under coach Jacie Hoyt, this rout highlights OSU’s rising form in a tough conference.
The Cowgirls next face Colorado on January 25, aiming to build on this momentum.
It’s been a helluva weekend to be a Cowboy/Cowgirl!
