Bedlam on Ice is coming to Boone Pickens Stadium. Oklahoma State announced it will host Oklahoma on Jan. 30 in the first hockey game ever played inside BPS. After drawing more than 15,000 fans in Tulsa last season, Cowboy Hockey is taking its rivalry with OU to an even bigger stage.

Oklahoma State announced Tuesday that its hockey program will host Oklahoma at Boone Pickens Stadium on Jan. 30, 2027, at 6 p.m., marking the first hockey game ever played inside the Cowboys' football stadium.

The announcement was the anticipated Oklahoma State hockey news teased ahead of Tuesday's press conference, and it represents another major step for a club program that has experienced rapid growth in recent years.

The rink will be installed east-to-west on top of the football playing surface, transforming one of college football's most recognizable venues into an outdoor hockey rink.

Tickets are already on sale, while Oklahoma State students will receive free admission. Fans will also have opportunities to skate on the rink themselves in the days leading up to Bedlam, with additional details expected closer to the event.

For the players, it's an opportunity unlike anything they've experienced before.

“Playing hockey in Boone Pickens Stadium is something you don't get to do twice,” OSU captain Kaden Nelson said in the university's release.

Nelson expects a massive atmosphere and said the Cowboys are going into the event with one goal: “We're there to make a statement.”

Oklahoma State Athletic Director Chad Weiberg called the event a reflection of the “remarkable growth of Cowboy Hockey in recent years.”

There's plenty of evidence behind that growth. The Cowboys and Sooners played Bedlam at the BOK Center in Tulsa last February, with more than 15,000 tickets sold. Oklahoma State rewarded the crowd with a dominant 13-2 victory over its in-state rival.

OSU then continued its successful season by advancing all the way to the ACHA Men's Division II national championship game.

Now Bedlam is headed somewhere even bigger. Playing college hockey inside a football stadium isn't unprecedented. Michigan and Michigan State famously drew more than 104,000 fans to Michigan Stadium in 2010, while Michigan State and Penn State played in front of more than 74,000 at Beaver Stadium earlier this year. But it's never happened at Boone Pickens Stadium.

The announcement also comes as Oklahoma State hockey continues to generate speculation about the program's long-term future and the possibility of eventually pursuing NCAA Division I status.

Tuesday's announcement does not represent a move to Division I, but staging Bedlam inside Boone Pickens Stadium provides another example of the program's growing ambitions and ability to generate interest.

OSU President and CEO of Hockey Colleen Harvey summed up the approach by borrowing a line from T. Boone Pickens about the importance of occasionally showing a new look.

Her message afterward was considerably simpler: “Get ready and buckle up.”

On Jan. 30, Boone Pickens Stadium will have a new look unlike anything Oklahoma State fans have seen before.
