Braylin Presley is back at Oklahoma State. The former Cowboy and Tulsa playmaker has returned to Stillwater after a court ruling gave him another year of eligibility. Now, four games into the season, Presley gives Eric Morris another versatile weapon as OSU comes out of its bye week.
Oklahoma State is adding a familiar name to its roster four games into the season.
Braylin Presley has returned to Oklahoma State and is expected to begin practicing with the Cowboys after a court ruling provided him another year of eligibility. Presley enrolled at OSU last week, according to The Oklahoman.
The timing makes the move particularly unusual. Presley was a member of the 2022 recruiting class and appeared to have exhausted his eligibility after spending his first season at Oklahoma State and the next three at Tulsa. Instead, an ongoing legal battle involving members of the 2022 high school class has opened another opportunity.
Presley was among eight athletes granted a temporary restraining order in September by a Cleveland County judge, allowing them to compete while litigation challenging NCAA eligibility rules continues.
That means Presley isn't returning through a typical NCAA waiver. His current eligibility stems from the court ruling while the broader legal case remains unresolved.
Now, more than four years after initially arriving in Stillwater, Presley is back where his college career began.
The former Bixby standout signed with Oklahoma State as a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class after a decorated high school career. Presley appeared in seven games as a freshman before entering the transfer portal and moving to Tulsa.
He became a significant part of the Golden Hurricane offense over the next three seasons, contributing as a receiver, running back and return specialist.
His return also adds another chapter to the Presley family's lengthy connection with Oklahoma State. Older brother Brennan Presley became one of the most productive receivers in program history, finishing his Cowboy career with 315 receptions and 3,315 receiving yards. Now Braylin will share the roster with younger brother Braeden Presley, a freshman defensive back.
Exactly where Braylin fits into Eric Morris' offense remains to be seen. Oklahoma State already has considerable depth at the skill positions. Caleb Hawkins has emerged as the Cowboys' leading option in the backfield, while Wyatt Young, Miles Coleman, Justin Bowick and others have helped give quarterback Drew Mestemaker a deep receiving corps.
But Presley's versatility gives Morris another experienced option. The 5-foot-9 playmaker has experience lining up in the backfield, working as a receiver and contributing on special teams. That could allow Oklahoma State to find specific packages for him without immediately requiring Presley to take on a full-time role.
There will also naturally be an adjustment period. While the rest of Oklahoma State's roster has gone through spring practice, summer workouts, fall camp and four games in Morris' system, Presley is joining the Cowboys in October.
The bye week couldn't have provided much better timing. OSU doesn't play again until hosting UCF, giving Presley additional practice time to begin learning the offense and getting acclimated to his new teammates.
Whether he immediately becomes part of Oklahoma State's game plan or needs more time remains to be seen.
But four games into a season in which Oklahoma State has climbed to No. 18 in the AP poll, Morris has unexpectedly added another experienced weapon.
And for Braylin Presley, a college career that once began in Stillwater is getting another chapter in orange and black.
