Oklahoma State men's golf fell just short of repeating as NCAA champions Tuesday, falling to eventual national champion Auburn in the match play semifinals at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

The Tigers completed a clean sweep of the Cowboys, clinching the semifinal matchup 3-0 to advance to the national championship match.

Eric Lee fell 7&5 to Logan Reilly, Ethan Feng dropped a 4&3 decision to Josiah Gilbert, and Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson was defeated 3&2 by Caden Pope. Gaven Lane and NCAA individual champion Preston Stout were both still on the course when play was halted, with neither match contributing to the final outcome after Auburn had already secured the necessary three points.

Despite the disappointing finish, Oklahoma State's season was far from a failure.

The third-place finish marked the seventh time in program history the Cowboys have finished third at the NCAA Championship and the 59th time Oklahoma State has placed inside the top 10 nationally. The latest deep postseason run only added to one of the most consistent résumés in college golf history.

Earlier in the day, the Cowboys punched their ticket to the semifinals with a 3-2 victory over Florida in the quarterfinals.

Lee set the tone with a dominant 6&4 victory over Luke Poulter. Feng fell in extra holes to Zach Swanwick, while Fahlberg-Johnsson dropped his match after leading for much of the day before Parker Bell mounted a late comeback.

Stout continued the momentum from his NCAA individual championship, never trailing in his match against Matthew Kress. Although he never led by more than two holes, the junior remained in control and secured a 1-up victory on the 18th hole. Lane delivered the deciding point to send the Cowboys into the semifinals.

The week belonged to Stout, who became the first Oklahoma State golfer since Matthew Wolff in 2019 to capture the NCAA individual championship. The victory added another milestone to a historic season and further cemented his place among the program's all-time greats.

While Oklahoma State ultimately fell short of its goal of winning back-to-back national championships, the Cowboys once again proved why they remain one of the premier programs in college golf.

From Rickie Fowler to Viktor Hovland to Matthew Wolff, Oklahoma State has consistently produced elite players capable of winning at both the collegiate and professional levels. That tradition continued this season as Stout claimed an individual national title and the Cowboys once again found themselves competing for a team championship deep into May.

A national title defense may have come up short, but Oklahoma State's standard remains unchanged.

The Cowboys finished among the nation's top three teams, added another NCAA individual champion to the trophy case, and strengthened a legacy that continues to make Stillwater one of the premier destinations in college golf.
