Oklahoma State softball took down the No. 1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday evening in Oklahoma City - now they face another test in the No. 16 Arizona Wildcats this weekend in Stillwater
Will Cowgirl Softball Win The Arizona Series?

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — In a packed Devon Park on Wednesday evening, April 15, the No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowgirls delivered one of the bigger upsets of the college softball season, topping the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners 6-4 in front of 7,800+ fans.
The Bedlam rivalry game, played in Oklahoma City, shows just how tough the Cowgirls are and proved they have clutch hitting as they handed Oklahoma just its fifth loss of the year. OSU improved to 28-11 overall and 9-6 in the Big 12, while the Sooners dropped to 40-5 and 13-2 in the SEC.
The Cowgirls jumped on the board first in the second inning. Pinch-runner Libby Jaques scored on a double to right-center by Tia Warsop, who finished the night with two doubles and two RBIs.
Oklahoma State added another run in the third when Karli Godwin launched a two out, two strike solo home run to left field, tying the game at 2-2 after Oklahoma had taken the lead on Kendall Wells’ two run homer (her NCAA freshman-record 32nd of the season).
Warsop’s second double in the fourth set up Audrey Schneidmiller’s RBI single, and Jayelle Austin followed with an RBI single of her own to push the lead to 4-2.
Rosie Davis doubled in the fifth and scored on a Warsop groundout to make it 5-2. Lexi McDonald, who had two hits including an RBI double earlier, delivered the insurance run in the sixth with a single that scored Godwin.
Oklahoma mounted a late rally in the sixth when Abby Dayton ripped a two out, two run double to deep left, scoring Ailana Agbayani and Allyssa Parker to cut the deficit to 5-4. But the Cowgirls held firm.
OSU’s offense totaled 10 hits, with McDonald, Warsop, and Davis combining for six of them and three RBIs. Godwin’s homer and multiple extra-base hits from the top of the order kept the pressure on.
The poster child of this big victory was senior pitcher Ruby Meylan, who was nothing short of dominant in a complete-game effort. Meylan threw all seven innings, allowing seven hits and four runs (only two earned), walking just one while striking out nine batters on 133 pitches. She managed through high leverage situations with calm, including striking out Wells, the nation’s top hitter, in the seventh inning to seal the win.
Her tough mental and ability to limit Oklahoma’s explosive lineup to just two earned runs proved huge.
Meylan’s record improved to 18-6, and her performance was the cornerstone of the upset, the program’s first win over a No. 1-ranked team since 2022. Oklahoma starter Miali Guachino (12-1) took the loss after allowing four earned runs in 3⅔ innings.
The Cowgirls now turn their attention to a challenging Big 12 weekend series at home in Stillwater against the No. 16 Arizona Wildcats.
The three-game set begins Friday, April 17, with the first pitch scheduled for 3:00PM CT at Cowgirl Stadium. Friday’s original game time was 6:00PM, but due to inclement weather concerns it has been moved up.
Saturday’s contest is set for 2:00PM CT, and Sunday’s finale for 11:00AM CT.
Arizona boasts a strong rotation, and Oklahoma State is expected to counter in Friday’s opener with one of its reliable arms, likely leaning on the momentum from Meylan’s gem or a fresh starter to keep the rotation intact after her high pitch outing. The Wildcats will probably turn to their ace for Game 1 in what promises to be a great game between two of the Big 12’s best.
Coach Kenny Gajewski’s squad will need to bottle the same toughness, focus, and lategame execution they displayed against the Sooners if they hope to come out victorious this weekend. Arizona is a dangerous team capable of big innings, but the Cowgirls proved Wednesday night that they can compete with, and beat, anybody when they play with confidence and capitalize on opportunities.
Adding to the excitement in Stillwater this weekend is Oklahoma State’s football spring game on Saturday, April 18, as part of Orange Power Weekend.
The spring game, along with the softball series and baseball action, will create a full day of Cowgirl and Cowboy athletics on campus. Expect a large turnout of Poke fans who plan to make a day of it, catching the softball game in the afternoon before heading over to Boone Pickens Stadium for the football spring game.
Wednesday’s win was more than just another victory in the rivalry. Oklahoma State showed it belongs among the elite, with Meylan leading the charge and a lineup that refuses to back down. If the Cowgirls bring that same fire against Arizona, Stillwater could be rocking all weekend long.
