Oklahoma State Cowgirls dominated the River State Classic, sweeping all five games with a 58-1 combined score —adding four shutouts, four run-rule wins, and Meylan’s no hitter dub
SAN MARCOS, TX — The No. 24/19 Oklahoma State Cowgirls softball team delivered a masterclass in the 2026 River State Classic in San Marcos, Texas, from February 19-21.
Facing a field that included Kansas City, Texas State, Brown, and Colorado State, OSU swept all five games with an astonishing combined score of 58-1.
The Cowgirls’ pitching staff was nearly impenetrable, allowing just one run over the entire weekend while securing four shutouts and four run-rule victories in five innings each.
This performance boosted OSU’s record to 11-4 on the season, flexing a resurgent offense and elite arms under head coach Kenny Gajewski. The team’s ability to blend hitting, base knocks, and lockdown defense turned the tournament into a statement of their Big 12 contender status.
The weekend kicked off on Thursday, February 19, with a pair of convincing wins at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
First, OSU dismantled Kansas City 12-1 in five innings. The Cowgirls exploded for 11 hits, including a home run from freshman outfielder Jayelle Austin. Amanda Hasler, Claire Timm, and Karli Godwin each drove in multiple runs, with the offense scoring three runs in each of the second through fifth innings.
Pitching held the Roos to three hits and one unearned run in the second. Just hours later, OSU blanked host Texas State 5-0 in a complete game gem from Ruby Meylan.
Meylan tossed a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and two walks over seven innings, improving to 3-1. The Cowgirls scored single runs in the third and fifth before adding three in the sixth, amassing 10 hits while committing no errors.
Friday, February 20, brought more run rule mercy as OSU routed Brown 14-0 in five innings to start the day.
The Cowgirls’ bats stayed hot, pounding out double digit runs for the second straight game, though specific highlights included multi-hit efforts across the lineup and great fielding.
That evening, Meylan etched her name in the record books with a no-hitter against Colorado State in a 10-0 five-inning shutout. Using just 46 pitches, she struck out five without a walk, allowing only one baserunner on an error.
Offensively, Amanda Hasler crushed a two-run homer (her 19th career), Jayelle Austin went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, two runs scored, and two RBIs, and Claire Timm added an RBI double, extending her hit streak to eight games. OSU collected 10 hits, with Hasler and Austin each driving in two.
The Cowgirls capped the tournament on Saturday, February 21, with a 17-0 five-inning demolition of Brown in their rematch, the most runs OSU has scored since 2020.
An 11-run second inning set the tone, featuring RBI hits from Claire Timm, Gabby Castillo, Rosie Davis, and Amanda Hasler amid 18 batters. Hasler led with four RBIs, Aubrey Jones notched three hits and an RBI, and Davis added two RBIs with two doubles. Preslee Downing earned the win (3-0) with four scoreless innings, four strikeouts, and no walks and Madison Hoffman closed the fifth. Brown managed just two hits against OSU’s stifling defense.
Overall, the Cowgirls’ pitching trio of Meylan (two wins, no-hitter, one-hitter), Downing, and others posted a 0.20 ERA, with 20 strikeouts and only three hits allowed across the final four games.
Offensively, OSU hit .412 as a team, with 51 hits, nine home runs, and 58 runs. Standouts included Austin (multiple homers, .500 average), Hasler (eight RBIs, two homers), and Timm (consistent RBIs, extended streak). The lone run allowed came against Kansas City, parading a defense that committed just two errors all weekend.
Looking ahead, Oklahoma State returns home to Cowgirl Stadium for the OSU/Tulsa Invitational, starting Thursday, February 26, against Nebraska at 6 p.m.
They’ll face Southeast Missouri State in a doubleheader on Friday, followed by more matchups with Nebraska and South Dakota State through Sunday.
