Oklahoma State softball locks in and takes 2-1 series win over BYU - highlighted by historic pitching by Ruby Meylan
STILLWATER, Okla. — The No. 23/21 Oklahoma State Cowgirls softball team earned a 2-1 series victory over BYU at Cowgirl Stadium from March 19-21, 2026.
After a disappointing 1-2 series the previous weekend at Arizona State, where pitching, hitting, and defense all showed inconsistencies, the Cowgirls looked a bit sharper and complete in every phase against the Cougars. And with 90°+ temps in Stillwater the past couple of days, it was almost like the Cowgirls brought the Arizona desert heat home with them, though this time in the form of hot bats instead of late inning meltdowns.
Game 1 – Thursday, March 19: Oklahoma State 6, BYU 0
Ruby Meylan (10-6) delivered five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit before Rylee Crandall closed it out. The Cowgirls banged out 10 hits, including solo homers from Amanda Hasler (her 8th) and Audrey Schneidmiller (her 2nd), plus a two-run homer from Rosie Davis (her 6th). Jayden Jones added an RBI double and stole home on a double steal play.
BYU managed only one hit total and Hailey Shuler (3-5) took the loss.
Game 2 – Friday, March 20: Oklahoma State 10, BYU 0 (5 innings)
Cowgirl pitching ace, Ruby Meylan was historic, throwing a perfect game, the ninth in program history and first since 2020. She faced the minimum 15 batters, struck out six on 70 pitches, and kept every ball in the infield. Cowgirl bats went for 10 runs on 10 hits in the run-rule win. Tia Warsop and Rosie Davis hit back to back homers in the first (Warsop’s first career & Davis’ 7th), with three more runs via sacrifice flies and a bases loaded walk. Lexi McDonald capped it with a three-run homer in the fifth.
BYU was hitless and Gianna Mares (5-6) took the loss.
Game 3 – Saturday, March 21: BYU 7, Oklahoma State 3
BYU prevented the sweep with its first Big 12 win of the season. Lily Owens sparked the Cougars with a two-run homer in the first (her 6th) and later stole home. The Cougs added two in the third and three in the fourth. Jada Villegas (1-7) threw a complete game.
For OSU, Preslee Downing started, Rylee Crandall (6-3) took the loss in relief, and Meylan finished. The Cowgirls scored via a double-steal (Claire Timm stealing home), an unearned run, and one in the sixth, but stranded nine runners, including bases loaded in the sixth. OSU finished the series at 21-10 overall and 4-5 in Big 12 play.
Meylan was the weekend’s standout, allowing just one hit and striking out 14 across 10 scoreless innings in the first two games. Hasler, Schneidmiller, Davis, Warsop, and McDonald combined for five home runs, while the defense committed only three errors total. It was a needed bounce back for the Cowgirls, showing that, when they get it going, they’re hard to beat.
Up next, Oklahoma State goes down the street for a midweek single game at Tulsa on Wednesday, March 25 at 5 p.m. CT, followed by a three-game Big 12 series at Utah March 27-29.
