0%It's one thing to impress Oklahoma State fans.
It's another to impress college football fans from across the country.
That's exactly what Drew Mestemaker did at this year's Manning Passing Academy.
One video from the annual quarterback gathering made the rounds on social media, showing several of college football's top signal-callers throwing deep balls down the sideline during a drill.
Among the names featured were Arch Manning, CJ Carr, John Mateer, Julian Sayin, Trindad Chambliss and Mestemaker.
When the video hit social media, many fans came away saying the same thing.
Mestemaker's throw stood out.
Comments praised the ball placement, touch and trajectory, with several users calling it the best throw of the group.
Whether or not everyone agrees with that assessment isn't really the point.
The fact that Oklahoma State's new quarterback was even part of that conversation says plenty.
The Manning Passing Academy annually attracts many of the nation's top quarterbacks, providing an opportunity to learn from some of football's biggest names while competing alongside elite talent.
For Mestemaker, it was another chance to show why expectations continue to grow entering his first season in Stillwater.
Those expectations didn't begin this weekend.
They've been building throughout the offseason.
After transferring from North Texas with head coach Eric Morris, Mestemaker arrived as one of the most productive quarterbacks in the country, throwing for more than 4,300 yards and 34 touchdowns last season.
National analysts have already taken notice.
The praise surrounding Mestemaker has been building for months.
CBS Sports recently included him among the quarterbacks poised to break out nationally this season, while Josh Pate has pointed to him as one of the biggest reasons Oklahoma State could emerge as one of college football's top dark horse teams. Add in the attention he's now receiving from fellow players and fans at the Manning Passing Academy, and it's clear the hype surrounding Oklahoma State's new quarterback continues to grow heading into Week 1.
Now, social media has added another layer to the excitement.
One throw won't determine how the season unfolds.
The real evaluations begin when Oklahoma State takes the field this fall.
Moments like these help reinforce the optimism surrounding the Cowboys' offense.
Mestemaker isn't just generating hype inside the program.
He's beginning to earn attention on a national stage.
If that throw at the Manning Passing Academy is any indication, Oklahoma State fans may have plenty more highlights to look forward to this season.
