Oklahoma State will have five representatives in the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. Eric Lee joined NCAA champion Preston Stout in the field after surviving "Golf's Longest Day," while alumni Viktor Hovland, Rickie Fowler and Sam Stevens will also compete in golf's national championship.

Preston Stout won't be the only current Oklahoma State golfer in the U.S. Open field at Shinnecock after his NCAA individual title, teammate Eric Lee is joining him.

Lee was part of the most grueling, brutal day on the golf calendar "Golf's Longest Day" where golfers (pro and amateur) played 36 holes on a regional qualifying course. Lee shot rounds of 67, 67 to tie for second at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, California and make the field as well. Lee made it in over other PGA Tour golfers Max Homa and Tony Finau, who were just some of the names to miss the field by a shot or lose in a playoff.

Lee is in the same junior class as Stout and was part of that team who won the NCAA Team Title last season. Was an All-Big 12 and All-American this season and as a sophomore.

There were 43 spots available and Lee, who was one of the lucky ones to advance joined the 19 others who battled through the first three qualifying events held two weeks along with the field of 85 golfers fully exempt.

Other than Stout and Lee, three other OSU golfing alums will tee it up in the Hamptons of New York June 18th. Viktor Hovland, who qualified through his status on the Ryder Cup team and world rankings. Rickie Fowler, who also has his name in the field from world ranking points after a slew of top 10 finishes and a win the last two seasons on Tour and Sam Stevens, who also ranks high enough in the OWGR to be in the field.

This goes to show how strong the men's golf program in Stillwater continues to be. Two current and three former player in the field at one of the sport's biggest majors? The only thing left is for one of them to win. Despite multiple wins and a long list of top finishes on Tour, Hovland and Fowler are still looking for their first major win. Hovland came close at the 2023 PGA Championship finishing runner-up and Fowler doing the same at the 2014 U.S. Open plus two T5 finishes in 2017 and 2023.

Even without a winner, the future is bright for OSU men's golf and who knows maybe Lee and Stout even run it up back after this for another season. Both have yet to announce whether they'll go pro or not.
