Oklahoma State will be without starting left tackle Jacob Sexton for the remainder of the season after he suffered a broken leg just five offensive plays into his Cowboys debut. Now OSU turns to Desmond Magiya or Shaun Torgeson with No. 2 Oregon coming to Stillwater.

Oklahoma State will be without one of the most important pieces of its offensive line for the remainder of the season.

Cowboys head coach Eric Morris confirmed Tuesday that starting left tackle Jacob Sexton will miss the rest of the 2026 season after suffering a broken leg during Oklahoma State's 24-10 season-opening loss at Tulsa.

Sexton went down on just Oklahoma State's fifth offensive play of the game when a Tulsa defender rolled into his lower right leg as Sexton was blocking downfield for running back Caleb Hawkins. He remained on the field for several minutes before being carted off with his leg in an air cast.

Morris immediately feared the injury was significant, saying after the game that it "wasn't good."

Tuesday confirmed those fears. The loss is significant for an Oklahoma State offensive line that struggled to protect quarterback Drew Mestemaker after Sexton exited. The Cowboys allowed consistent pressure throughout the afternoon and had difficulty converting several critical short-yardage situations.

Morris described Sexton as Oklahoma State's best offensive lineman following the loss. Now the Cowboys have to figure out how to replace him before facing one of the best teams in the country.

Oklahoma State's updated depth chart lists Desmond Magiya OR Shaun Torgeson at left tackle ahead of Saturday's matchup against No. 2 Oregon.

Magiya was the first player called upon after Sexton went down against Tulsa before Torgeson also received snaps at left tackle. Torgeson is particularly intriguing after emerging as one of Oklahoma State's biggest offensive line risers during fall camp.

Morris said during camp that Torgeson had performed well enough that he likely would have started at right tackle had the Cowboys played a game at that point. Sexton also praised the Portland State transfer during camp for his strength, physicality and athleticism.

Torgeson brings experience at Sexton's position as well. He started at left tackle for Portland State last season and played nearly 800 snaps.

Morris said Tuesday the competition will come down to which player performs best in practice this week.

Another potential option isn't ready yet. North Texas transfer Braydon Nelson continues to work his way back from a knee injury and will not be available against Oregon. Morris has maintained that the Cowboys won't rush Nelson back before he's physically ready.

Sexton's injury is an especially difficult development considering his recent history. The former Oklahoma offensive lineman started the Sooners' 2025 season opener before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the year. He transferred to Oklahoma State for his final season and earned a starting role at left tackle, only to suffer another season-ending injury five snaps into his Cowboys career.

His absence leaves Oklahoma State searching for answers at one of the offense's most important positions at a difficult time.

The Cowboys struggled offensively against Tulsa, scoring only 10 points despite gaining 368 yards. Mestemaker threw two interceptions and lost a fumble while frequently facing pressure after Sexton's departure.

Now Oklahoma State has only a few days to adjust before No. 2 Oregon arrives at Boone Pickens Stadium.

For Torgeson, Magiya and the rest of the Cowboys' offensive line, the opportunity — and challenge — just became significantly larger.
