Ollie Gordon II delivered the best rushing performance of his NFL career Sunday, running for 100 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries in Miami's loss to Minnesota. With De'Von Achane sidelined, the former Oklahoma State star could be earning a much larger role in the Dolphins' backfield.

Ollie Gordon II gave Oklahoma State fans a familiar sight Sunday afternoon.

The former Cowboy running back produced the best rushing performance of his young NFL career, running for 100 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries in the Miami Dolphins' 15-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Gordon averaged 11.1 yards per carry and accounted for more than half of Miami's total offense as the Dolphins fell to 0-4. His previous NFL career high was 46 rushing yards.

His biggest play came on a 53-yard run, providing one of the few explosive moments for a Miami offense that finished with only 198 total yards.

Gordon also scored Miami's only touchdown, finding the end zone on a 12-yard run late in the third quarter to cut Minnesota's lead to 12-10.

The performance could prove particularly important for Gordon's role moving forward. Miami lost starting running back De'Von Achane to a season-ending ACL injury the previous week, creating an opportunity for Gordon and Jaylen Wright to take on larger workloads.

Wright technically received the start Sunday and handled the Dolphins' first two carries, but Gordon quickly emerged as the more productive option. He finished with nine carries compared to five for Wright.

It continued an encouraging two-week stretch for the former Oklahoma State star. Gordon carried 17 times for 41 yards and scored his first touchdown of the season against Kansas City the previous week. He followed that performance by reaching the century mark for the first time as an NFL player against Minnesota.

Gordon's rookie season was much quieter. After being selected by Miami in the 2025 NFL Draft, Gordon finished his first NFL season with 199 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 70 carries.

Sunday offered the clearest glimpse yet of the player Oklahoma State fans watched become one of college football's best running backs.

Gordon exploded onto the national scene with the Cowboys in 2023, winning the Doak Walker Award and helping lead Oklahoma State to the Big 12 Championship Game. His combination of patience, physicality and big-play ability made him one of the most productive backs in the country.

Three years later, Gordon may finally be earning an opportunity to showcase those same qualities on a larger scale in Miami.

The Dolphins still haven't won a game this season, but Gordon's career day provided one significant positive. And with Achane sidelined, the former Cowboy may have just made a strong case for a much larger role in Miami's backfield.
