“Two confident guys who will rip the ball.” Oklahoma State WR Wyatt Young is excited for the Drew Mestemaker-Conner Weigman showdown at Houston. With Young already producing 462 receiving yards and four touchdowns, the Cowboys' passing attack enters Saturday's Big 12 clash with momentum.

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State wide receiver Wyatt Young knows what it looks like when a quarterback plays with confidence.

He's witnessed it firsthand while catching passes from Drew Mestemaker, who has helped lead the Cowboys to four consecutive victories behind one of the nation's most productive passing attacks.

Now, as Oklahoma State prepares for Saturday's road matchup against Houston, Young sees similarities between Mestemaker and Cougars quarterback Conner Weigman.

“Two confident guys who will rip the ball,” Young said during Oklahoma State's weekly media availability.

Young believes both quarterbacks possess the confidence to make difficult throws and the leadership necessary to command their respective offenses.

“Just two guys who are comfortable in their offense. Two true leaders, and it'll be fun to see them go at it.”

Young Emerging as a Major Weapon for Mestemaker

Young has become one of Oklahoma State's most productive offensive weapons through the first five games of the 2026 season. The Cowboys' receiver leads the team with 462 receiving yards on 27 receptions, averaging an impressive 17.1 yards per catch while scoring four touchdowns.

Young is averaging 92.4 receiving yards per game, establishing himself as a consistent downfield threat for Mestemaker. His production has been particularly impressive in Oklahoma State's biggest moments.

Against West Virginia on Sept. 26, Young exploded for 192 receiving yards as the Cowboys defeated the Mountaineers 41-24. In Saturday's 42-28 victory over UCF, Young added five receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown, helping Oklahoma State extend its winning streak.

The receiver has now caught at least one pass in 20 consecutive games and recorded seven 100-yard receiving performances over his last 13 contests. His chemistry with Mestemaker has become a significant component of Oklahoma State's offensive success.

Mestemaker's Confidence Continues to Grow

Mestemaker enters the Houston matchup having thrown for at least 300 yards in four consecutive games. Against UCF, he completed 19 of 28 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns without an interception.

One of the throws that stood out to Young came on a completion to fellow receiver Justin Bowick despite multiple defenders surrounding him.

“You saw the throw from Drew to Justin Bowick and still completed it with three people on him,” Young said.

That willingness to challenge tight coverage reflects the confidence Young sees in his quarterback. Through five games, Mestemaker has thrown for 1,575 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 315 passing yards per contest.

Weigman Presents His Own Challenges

Houston's Weigman brings a different dimension to Saturday's quarterback matchup.

Oklahoma State head coach Eric Morris described Weigman as a dual-threat quarterback who can challenge defenses with both his arm and his mobility.

“He's a dual-threat guy,” Morris said. “Super accurate in the red zone.”

Weigman enters the contest following a four-touchdown passing performance in Houston's 35-16 victory over Kansas State.

The Cougars' quarterback has thrown 15 touchdowns against just one interception this season, giving Houston an efficient playmaker to lead its offense.

For Oklahoma State, containing Weigman will be a significant part of Saturday's defensive challenge.

A Showdown Between Two Confident Leaders

With both teams entering Saturday's matchup nationally ranked, the quarterback battle could play an important role in determining the outcome.

Mestemaker has helped Oklahoma State establish an explosive passing attack, while Weigman's efficiency and versatility have made Houston a formidable Big 12 opponent.

For Young, who has emerged as one of Mestemaker's most reliable targets, the matchup presents an opportunity to continue building on a strong individual season while helping Oklahoma State maintain its momentum.

The Cowboys enter Saturday at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play. Kickoff against Houston is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on FOX.

And with two confident quarterbacks leading their offenses, Young is looking forward to seeing how the matchup unfolds.
