Oklahoma State Cowboys rally from 5-2 deficit, smash four homers, endure weather delay to secure 6-5 walk-off win over Dallas Baptist

STILLWATER, Okla. — In a nail-biting, weather-delayed showdown at O’Brate Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the Oklahoma State Cowboys baseball team delivered a dramatic 6-5 walk-off win over the Dallas Baptist Patriots on Tuesday night, March 10, 2026.

The game, which extended into extra innings, displayed OSU’s fight as they overcame an early deficit and battled through adversity to secure their third straight victory, improving their record to 12-4. Dallas Baptist, meanwhile, dropped to 9-8 after the tough loss.

The storyline of the game was one of perseverance for the Cowboys. Trailing 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, OSU mounted a comeback that epitomized their “battle back” mentality.

The Patriots had built their lead with timely hitting and power, but the Cowboys refused to fade, chipping away with home runs and stellar relief pitching to force extras.

The contest was interrupted by a one-and-a-half-hour weather delay in the top of the seventh, adding to the tension, but OSU emerged from the break with renewed focus, ultimately sealing the win in the 10th.

OSU struck first in the bottom of the opening frame when Alex Conover singled to lead off, setting the stage for Brock Thompson’s two-run, opposite-field homer, his third of the season, to give the Cowboys a 2-0 advantage.

Dallas Baptist responded quickly, tying the game in the second on an RBI single from Cooper Neville, who also stole a base. The Patriots surged ahead in the third with a two-run homer by Ryan Martin, who finished the night with two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored, and that pivotal blast. DBU extended their lead to 5-2 in the fourth on an RBI double from Chayton Krauss.

The Cowboys’ rally ignited in the sixth. Aidan Meola was hit by a pitch to start, and Colin Brueggemann crushed his fourth home run of the year, a two-run shot to right field, narrowing the gap to 5-4. On the very next pitch, TP Wentworth delivered a solo homer down the left-field line, tying the score at 5-5. This back-to-back homer sequence echoed an earlier feat by OSU’s Kollin Ritchie and Meola against Grand Canyon.

Pitching played a crucial role on both sides. OSU starter Kai Fyke navigated early trouble, including a sliding catch by Ritchie in shallow center to strand runners in the first. Stormy Rhodes relieved in the fourth but allowed DBU’s fifth run.

The bullpen shone bright, with Brennan Phillips striking out a batter post-delay in the seventh. Noah Wech earned the win (2-0), tossing three shutout innings with two strikeouts, escaping a bases loaded jam in the ninth via a 6-4-3 double play highlighted by Brueggemann’s scoop at first. Wech’s outing lowered his ERA to 0.63 over 14 1/3 innings.

For DBU, JT Long took the loss (1-3), while their offense collected 10 hits, including Martin’s homer and Krauss’s double.

The game’s climax came in the bottom of the 10th. With one out, catcher Campbell Smithwick stepped up and launched a solo home run, his first in an OSU uniform, sending the ball soaring for the walk-off victory. Smithwick joined Thompson, Brueggemann, and Wentworth as the four Cowboys who homered, powering OSU’s nine-hit attack.

Defensively, OSU committed two errors but made clutch plays, while DBU played error-free ball.

Statistically, OSU’s power surge was the difference, with four homers accounting for all six RBIs. Brueggemann led with two RBIs and a run, while Thompson added two RBIs and a run.

For the Patriots, Martin was the standout with his multi-faceted contributions, supported by Neville’s RBI and stolen base, and Dylan Cupp’s RBI. DBU left runners in scoring position, stranding opportunities that could have extended their lead.

This hard-fought win sets the stage for OSU’s next challenge. The Cowboys will travel to Orlando, Florida, this weekend to open Big 12 Conference play with a three-game series against UCF.

The opener is slated for Friday, March 13, at 5:00 PM CDT, where OSU aims to build on their momentum in what promises to be a competitive matchup.
