Breaking down the latest decommitments from Oklahoma State, after the firing of Mike Gundy

Longtime Oklahoma State head coach, Mike Gundy, was fired on September 23 rd , after 21 seasons of relative, by Cowboy standards, long term success. After a 1-2 start, that included a win against UT Martin and losses against Oregon and the University Tulsa, the decision to part with Mike Gundy was made, leaving offensive coordinator, Doug Meacham, as the interim head coach.

Notably, Mike Gundy was fired from Oklahoma State before the new NCAA Transfer Portal rule was instituted at the beginning of October. Since Gundy was fired before the new NCAA rule took place, it allowed current Oklahoma State players a 30-day window to enter the transfer portal.

That ruling didn’t only result in a somewhat mini-exodus for players currently on the team, it, ultimately, affected the 2026 Oklahoma State commits/class of recruits. The new NCAA rule, regarding open transfer portals for teams who fire their head coach, states that “when a college football coach is fired or leaves, players now have a 15-day window to enter the transfer portal, but this window does not open until five days after a new head coach is hired or announced.

This is a change from the previous rule where a 30-day window opened immediately after a coaching change.” This new rule prevents mass immediate player exodus and gives the new coach a chance to retain players. Oklahoma State fired Gundy before this rule went into place. Below, you’ll find a list of Oklahoma State decommits after the program decided to part ways from Mike Gundy.

    DECOMMIT – 09/23/25

    Kaydin (KD) Jones – 5’10.5 / 175 – Running Back – 3 Star (Jenks, OK)

    - Huge loss for Oklahoma State on the recruiting trail. KD Jones decommits from Oklahoma State and seemingly commits to Kansas out of the gate. The Jenks, OK standout could be a Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award winner realistically. Lance Leipold counts his lucky stars and adds another one to his class in an all-time Jenks, OK prospect, KD Jones.

    Aiden Martin – 6’5 / 275 – Offensive Tackle – 3 Star (Berryhill, OK)

    - Where does three-star OT, Aiden Martin, end up after calling off a home state commit? He has offers from Washington State, Arkansas, Baylor, and Kansas. Berryhill, OK is a smaller school but a 6’5 Martin could make an big impact.

    Jabarie Thorton – 5’10.5 / 175 – Wide Receiver – 3 Star (Waco, TX)

    - The three-star wideout has offers from Nebraska, Ole Miss, Houston, Baylor, Arkansas, Oregon, Washington State, among others. I believe Oklahoma State is still in play for retaining Thorton, especially after seemingly retaining the Presley family tradition. It will be interesting, with a new Oklahoma State hire, of recruits who will keep their committal.

    DECOMMIT – 09/24/25

    Trey McGlothlin – 6’2 / 195 – Linebacker – 3 Star (Bixby, OK)

    - Bixby, Oklahoma has been it’s own pipeline for Oklahoma State in it’s own right. Trey McGlothlin is no different. McGlothlin has offers from Arizona State, Boston College, Iowa and Iowa State. I expect the OK WR to stay in state and return commitment to Oklahoma State.

    DECOMMIT – 09/25/25

    Kase Evans – 6’2 / 198 – Quarterback – 3 Star (Lexington, TX)

    - Texas kid, Kase Evans, has offers from Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Florida Atlantic, Abilene Christian, among a few lesser teams. I’m not sure he’s the future gunner for Oklahoma State. I’ve been wrong before, but I’m not concerned. We’re not flirting with Mason Rudolph right here, right?

    DECOMMIT – 09/28/25

    Josiah Vilmael – 6’1 / 185 – Cornerback – 3 Star (Richmond, TX)

    - Offered from Big 12 schools Kansas State, Houston, Arizona State, and Baylor. Welcome to Stillwater, kid. If the first four programs want you, you can be welcomed with cheese fries and free tuition.

    DECOMMIT – 09/30/25

    Carter Langenderfer – 6’0 / 190 – Safety – 3 Star (Owasso, OK)

    - The three-star safety Carter Langenderfer backed off his pledge to the Cowboys. The in-state star, who had been committed since April has decided to decommit. “I have made the difficult decision to decommit from Oklahoma State University,” he posted on X. “My recruitment is now open.” Langenderfer committed to Oklahoma State in April over offers from Army, Iowa State and Tulsa.

    DECOMMIT – 10/12/25

    Tajh Overton – 6’3 / 275 – Defensive Lineman – 4 Star (Owasso, OK)

    - Overton was committed to the in-state program since June 27, when he chose the Cowboys over Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU and dozens of other reported offers. Mizzou has been pushing for a flip this fall and just had him on campus.

    DECOMMIT – 10/15/25

    Danny Beale – 6’3.5 / 315 – Defensive Lineman – 4 Star (Cherry Valley, AR)

    - Beale was pledged to the Cowboys since June 25, but is now back on the board amidst a rocky season in Stillwater that witnessed the firing of longtime head coach Mike Gundy on Sept. 23. Beale was the top-ranked commitment in OSU’s 2026 class. The 6-foot-3, 300-pounder is the No. 190 overall prospect and No. 20 DL in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.
