If Texas Tech loses Brendan Sorsby for the entire season, does that create an opening for the Oklahoma State Cowboys to win the Big 12 title?

This week on The Jones Report, Sooners Roundtable publisher Tyler Jones, and OkState Roundtable editor Thomas Bridges tackle the biggest headlines in the SEC and the Big 12.

The biggest news in the Big 12 this week is surrounding new Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who is in rehab for a gambling addiction. Speculation has been that his former school Cincinnati was aware of his betting habits, and let him play anyway.

Both Jones and Bridges believe that Sorsby and Cincinnati have to be held accountable, and if the allegations are true, then Sorsby’s college career should be over.

With the Red Raiders losing their starting quarterback, they’ll have to turn to either Will Hammond or former Tulsa Golden Hurricane quarterback Kirk Francis.

The guys believe that Texas Tech should take a step back, but not significant enough for a team like Oklahoma State to all of sudden have an opening to win the league. Both Jones and Bridges believe that the Cowboys will be greatly improved, but that Texas Tech and BYU still stand in their way.

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart made headlines this week for saying the Big Ten has overtaken the SEC on The Next Round.

"I just think they have a more competitive conference," Smart said. "Like the top of their conference, there's more good teams. It used to be, eh, Ohio State's good. Michigan's good. Indiana's really good. Now they got Oregon. They have the ability to attract good players."

While this will rub some people the wrong way in the league, Jones said he doesn’t think it is a bad thing for Oklahoma. As the Sooners enter their third year in the conference, he said that they are in a good position to continue adapting to the league, while a lot of the traditional powers are down.

Jones and Bridges both agreed that Brent Venables’ squad is right there with Texas, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M, believing that there is no reason why they can’t compete with the top of the league, adding that the program is on the right trajectory and will only get better from here.

Also on this week’s program, FOX4 Kansas City anchor John Holt joins the show, giving insights to what’s going on in Lawrence with the Kansas Jayhawks’ football and men’s basketball squads.
