So many Oklahoma State fans wondered whether an ace pitcher could replace what Kelly Maxwell did for Cowgirls softball, helping lead the program to the Women's College World Series. Replacing that experience, production and leadership was never going to be easy. But for one season, Ruby Meylan became that answer and created her own legacy in Stillwater.

Going into the season, Meylan solved Oklahoma State's biggest question. Not offense. Not defense. Production in the circle.

Meylan embraced the role of staff ace from the opening weekend and never looked back, earning Big 12 Pitcher of the Year honors while giving head coach Kenny Gajewski stability every time she stepped into the circle. The numbers speak for themselves. Meylan threw more than 300 innings, recorded 343 strikeouts, posted a 2.41 ERA and was credited with 27 of Oklahoma State's 41 victories.

What made Meylan's season even more impressive was the workload she carried. In today's game, where teams often rely on multiple pitchers and carefully manage innings, Oklahoma State consistently turned to Meylan in the biggest moments. Whether it was a crucial conference series, a matchup against a ranked opponent or postseason play, the Cowgirls knew exactly who would get the ball. That reliability became one of the team's biggest strengths throughout the season.

While Maxwell helped bring Oklahoma State back into national prominence, Meylan helped keep the Cowgirls there.

Another 40-win season. Another year in the hunt for a Big 12 championship. Oklahoma State finished second in the conference behind Texas Tech, which went on to reach the Women's College World Series championship series. The Cowgirls also returned to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Super Regional round before their season ended against Nebraska.

Perhaps the biggest compliment to Meylan is that Oklahoma State never had to spend the season wondering whether the pitching staff would be good enough. That question was answered early and often.

Oklahoma State may have only had one season from Ruby Meylan, but it was a season that helped define an era of transition for the program. When questions surrounded the pitching staff, Meylan provided answers. When the Cowgirls needed an ace, she delivered.

And while her career in Stillwater is over, the standard she set in the circle will be felt long after her final pitch.

Who do you all think will be the next best pitcher for the Cowgirls? Is it someone in the program already or another big transfer from the portal?
