STILLWATER, Okla. —
Oklahoma State football has landed a significant commitment from the transfer portal. Jacob Sexton, a seasoned offensive lineman who spent four years with the Oklahoma Sooners, announced his decision to join the Cowboys on Tuesday evening. This move comes less than 24 hours after Sexton entered the portal, marking a quick turnaround for the Edmond, Oklahoma native who will now suit up for the in-state rival in Stillwater.
Sexton’s journey to this point is rooted in a stellar high school career that positioned him as one of the top prospects in the nation. Hailing from Deer Creek High School in Edmond, Sexton was a consensus four-star recruit in the class of 2022.
According to recruiting services, he ranked as high as No. 221 overall by Rivals, No. 233 by On3, and No. 254 by ESPN. As an interior offensive lineman, he was pegged in the top 25 nationally, with On3 placing him at No. 15, 247Sports and Rivals at No. 21, and ESPN at No. 22.
Within his home state, Sexton was a top-10 talent, earning No. 6 rankings from ESPN, Rivals, and On3, and No. 8 from 247Sports.
His dominance on the field was complemented by his versatility as a three-sport athlete, excelling in wrestling and track and field, where he competed in shot put and discus.
In 2021, he was named the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year, a testament to his blocking power and leadership on the line. He played a pivotal role in guiding Deer Creek to the Oklahoma 6A-II state championship game that year, relying on the physicality and technique that made him a sought-after recruit.
Ultimately, Sexton chose the Sooners over powerhouse programs like Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, and notably, Oklahoma State itself.
Over his four-year tenure at Oklahoma, Sexton developed into a reliable contributor on the offensive line, though injuries occasionally hampered his progress. As a true freshman in 2022, he appeared in 10 of 13 games, logging 71 offensive snaps primarily at left tackle (49) and right tackle (22), per Pro Football Focus. He earned his first career start in the Cheez-It Bowl against Florida State but was sidelined early due to injury.
In 2023, Sexton played in seven games, starting the final four at right tackle, including matchups against West Virginia, BYU, TCU, and Arizona in the Alamo Bowl.
His junior year in 2024 saw increased responsibility, as he started the first eight games on the left side, four at tackle and four at guard, before another injury cut his season short.
That year, he was honored on the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, highlighting his commitment off the field.
Entering his senior season in 2025, Sexton was poised for a strong finish but suffered an injury just six snaps into the opener against Illinois State, limiting his on-field impact.
Despite these setbacks, Sexton’s experience and size, now standing at 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds, make him a valuable asset with proven SEC-level play.
For Oklahoma State, Sexton’s commitment is a major boost to their offensive line depth. Under head coach Eric Morris, the Cowboys have aggressively pursued transfers, with Sexton becoming their 25th portal addition this cycle. His familiarity with Bedlam’s intensity, combined with his technical skills and physical presence, could help stabilize an OSU unit that struggled with protection in recent seasons.
This transfer not only strengthens the Cowboys’ roster but also adds a layer of intrigue to future matchups against the Sooners, should the rivalry resume.
Sexton’s decision to cross Bedlam lines reflects the fluid nature of modern college football, where loyalty often gives way to opportunity. As he prepares to don orange and black, staff will hope his presence can help propel Oklahoma State back into Big 12 contention. With his pedigree and experience, Sexton has the potential to be a cornerstone for the Cowboys’ rebuilding efforts.
