Led by freshman sensations and a nation-leading three first-team selections, the dominant Sooners carry elite firepower into a high-stakes Super Regional showdown against fellow SEC foe Mississippi State
Oklahoma Softball continued to stack up recognition this week with three players earning first-team All-America honors.
Kendall Wells, Ella Parker, and Kai Minor all made the cut, while Gabbie Garcia landed on the second team.
The Sooners were the only program in the country to place three players on the first team.
Kendall Wells has been an absolute monster at the plate. She sits second in the nation in home runs and was deservedly named Softball America’s Freshman of the Year.
That’s elite company for a first-year player stepping into one of the most demanding lineups in the country.
Wells has power, presence, and the ability to change a game with one swing. Her freshman campaign has been special, and she’s nowhere near done yet.
Kai Minor also earned first-team All-America recognition and earned a spot on the All-Freshman team alongside Wells.
Ella Parker has been a steady force all season and rounding out the first-team trio gives Oklahoma serious firepower from top to bottom in the order.
Gabbie Garcia earning second-team honors adds even more depth to the résumé.
This group isn’t just relying on one or two stars, they’re loaded.
The fact that no other team could match Oklahoma’s three first-team selections underscores how dominant the Sooners have been throughout this season, despite being eliminated early in the SEC Tournament.
After a strong performance last week in the Norman Regionals, the Sooners now turn their attention to the Super Regionals. They’ll host SEC foe Mississippi State this weekend with a trip to the Women’s College World Series on the line.
First pitch is set for Friday at 12:00 PM CT in Norman.
The program has built a standard of excellence under Patty Gasso. Making it back to the WCWS is the expectation, but that doesn’t make it easy.
The combination of veteran leadership and this talented freshman class gives Oklahoma the versatility and depth needed to make another deep run.
The pitching staff, timely hitting, and defensive play all came together nicely in the regionals. Now they’ll need that same execution against Mississippi State.
These All-America honors are well-earned validation for the hard work this team has put in.
For Wells and Minor, being recognized as freshmen is impressive and sets a high bar moving forward. Parker and Garcia have also delivered consistently all season.
The Sooners are positioned well heading into this critical weekend. A strong showing in the Super Regionals would punch their ticket to Oklahoma City once again, where they’ve made plenty of noise in recent history.
The road to the WCWS runs through Norman this weekend. With three first-team All-Americans leading the charge and a home-field advantage, Oklahoma looks hungry to make another statement.
Despite playing in the same conference, this weekend's series will be the first meeting between the Sooners and Bulldogs.
