Porter Moser secures a major recruiting victory as the high-scoring prospect chooses Norman, becoming the program’s highest-rated addition since Trae Young to bolster the Sooners’ SEC future
Four-star shooting guard Quincy Wadley announced his commitment to the University of Oklahoma men’s basketball program on Friday, according to 247Sports’ Brody Lusk.
The pledge represents a significant recruiting win for head coach Porter Moser and the Sooners as they continue building in the SEC.
Wadley, ranked as the No. 43 overall prospect in the 2026 class by 247Sports (and around No. 52 in the composite rankings), becomes the highest-rated recruit of Moser’s tenure at Oklahoma.
He stands as the program’s highest-rated signee since Trae Young chose the Sooners in 2017. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard from AZ Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona (originally from Arlington, Virginia), picked Oklahoma over finalists Cincinnati and LSU after an official visit to Norman earlier in the week.
Player Profile and Scouting Report
Wadley is a long, smooth scoring guard with “microwave” scoring ability—the kind of player who can erupt for big scoring bursts once he heats up. He possesses good positional size and length for a shooting guard, allowing him to attack off the dribble, create shots from mid-range and beyond the arc, and finish at the rim with athleticism and both hands.
Scouts praise his craftiness in the lane and his potential as a versatile offensive weapon who can play both on and off the ball.
His senior season at the prestigious AZ Compass Prep saw him average 11.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. On the Pro16 summer circuit, he showcased expanded production, posting 6.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game while flashing defensive instincts and rebounding prowess for his position.
Offensively, he has the tools to provide instant scoring off the bench or in a rotation role, though areas for growth include improving efficiency (he has shown tendencies toward tough shots and turnovers), simplifying his game, and adding physical strength to play through contact more effectively.
Durability has been a factor in his development, with past lower-body injuries limiting reps, but evaluators see high upside once he logs consistent minutes and refines his feel for the game.
At the college level, his length, athleticism, and scoring versatility project well in today’s pace-and-space, positionless basketball, especially in the physical SEC.
Fit with the Sooners
Wadley joins four-star forward Gage Mayfield as Oklahoma’s 2026 high school commitments, giving the class strong long-term potential alongside immediate contributors.
Moser and his staff envision Wadley as a combo guard capable of impacting games in multiple ways including coming off screens, playing on and off the ball, and contributing as a two-way player.
The Sooners return key pieces from their 2025-26 roster, including guards like Xzayvier Brown, Pop Isaacs, and Dayton Forsythe. Wadley will have the opportunity to learn from and compete alongside experienced talent while carving out his own role.
His size and skill set should complement the length and athleticism already on the roster, helping Oklahoma add perimeter scoring punch and defensive versatility.
This commitment caps a fast-moving recruitment. Oklahoma extended an offer recently, hosted Wadley quickly, and closed strong. Wadley expressed confidence in the program, citing the team’s collective talent, length, and athleticism as major draws.
Broader Context for Oklahoma Basketball
Porter Moser’s recruiting efforts have elevated since his arrival in Norman. Landing two top-75 talents in the 2026 class (Wadley at No. 43 and Mayfield at No. 74) marks a notable step forward, representing the first time in recent memory the Sooners have secured multiple high-level high school prospects in one cycle.
Combined with portal additions like Akoldah Gak and others, plus returning production, the program is positioning itself for sustained competitiveness in the SEC.
For Wadley, choosing Oklahoma offers a chance to develop under Moser’s system, known for player development and offensive creativity, while competing at a high level immediately.
