Brendan Brock's powerful bat ignites the Sooners' offense, driving in crucial runs and earning him conference Player of the Week honors

The University of Oklahoma's baseball team is off to a strong start, and junior Brendan Brock has emerged as one of the standout performers driving that success. Brock has been honored as the SEC Player of the Week, following an impressive showing during the opening weekend series against No. 23 Texas A&M and a midweek contest.

In four games last week, the Sooners secured a hard-fought series victory over the Aggies with two wins, plus a convincing midweek triumph against UT Arlington. Brock delivered a stellar performance, batting .444 across those contests. His power surge was particularly notable, as he tallied five extra-base hits, including two home runs, and drove in eight RBIs.

He went deep in back-to-back games during the Texas A&M series, showcasing his ability to deliver in high-pressure SEC matchups. Adding to his offensive contributions, Brock also notched his first triple of the 2026 season. Of his eight hits during the week, five directly resulted in runs coming across the plate, highlighting his clutch production and impact on the scoreboard.

Beyond the bat, Brock proved his value as a versatile athlete in the field. He made starts at both catcher and in the outfield, holding his own in both positions with 40 putouts and two assists while committing zero errors. While on base, he displayed speed and aggressiveness by stealing two bases on two attempts, adding another dimension to his game.

The junior is a transfer from Southwestern Illinois CC, where he earned NJCAA First Team All-American honors. Brock has quickly become a cornerstone for the Sooners. Through the early part of the 2026 campaign, he leads the team in several key offensive categories: hits (25), home runs (6), RBIs (26), and slugging percentage (.718). His consistent production has helped Oklahoma maintain a potent lineup as they adjust to the challenges of SEC competition.

This achievement is Oklahoma's first SEC Player of the Week honor since joining the conference. It also represents the third SEC weekly recognition for the Sooners this season, following pitcher LJ Mercurius earning Pitcher of the Week and freshman Cord Rager claiming Freshman of the Week after the opening weekend.

The Sooners' strong play is a reflection of head coach Skip Johnson has assembled. With Brock leading the charge offensively, combined with contributions from teammates like Deiten Lachance, Trey Gambill, Camden Johnson, and Jaxon Willits. All four players have all been hitting over .300 with significant playing time.

The series against Texas A&M was particularly exciting, as it featured back-to-back homers from Brock and Willits in one game. It also included a 2-1 series win that was highlighted by an 8-7 victory on Friday, then followed up by a 9-5 setback on Saturday, and concluded with 12-11 win on Sunday.

Looking ahead, the No. 8 Sooners hit the road for a challenging trip to the Pelican State. They open with a midweek game against Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT, before heading to Baton Rouge for a three-game SEC series against LSU this weekend.

With Brock's hot streak continuing and the team gaining momentum in conference play, Oklahoma could have more big performances coming as the season progresses.
