Felila's explosive power and relentless motor ignite Oklahoma Sooners' defensive line, fortifying a top-ranked recruiting class with a disruptive force.
The Oklahoma Sooners continued building one of the deepest and most talented recruiting classes in recent program history on April 27, 2026, as three-star defensive lineman Sione Felila from Oak Hills High School in Hesperia, California, announced his commitment.
Felila made the pledge public via social media, telling Rivals reporter Hayes Fawcett he chose the Sooners over strong offers from Notre Dame, Oregon, Cal, Washington, UCLA, TCU, Utah, and others.
His excited message read: “All thanks to my Heavenly Father, BOOMER!”
Standing at 6-foot-3 and approximately 290-310 pounds, Felila brings a powerful, disruptive presence to the interior of Oklahoma’s defensive line.
As a junior in 2025, he recorded 45 tackles (including 18 for loss) and 6.5 sacks in just 10 games, showcasing his ability to clog running lanes, generate pressure, and make plays behind the line of scrimmage.
Scouting reports highlight his explosive first step, strong bull rush, relentless motor, and natural strength that allow him to shed blocks effectively.
While he is currently rated as a consensus three-star (No. 723 overall and around No. 69-81 at defensive line nationally per 247Sports Composite), many evaluators believe his frame, production, and upside could allow him to develop into a productive Power Four contributor or even exceed his current ranking.
Felila becomes the 20th commitment in Oklahoma’s 2027 recruiting class and the fourth defensive lineman overall. He joins fellow 2027 DL prospects Elija Harmon (four-star) and Deven Robertson (three-star), giving defensive line coach Todd Bates and the Sooners a promising trio of interior talents to develop.
This addition bolsters depth on a defensive front that is already receiving high marks for its combination of size, athleticism, and potential impact.
The commitment caps a strong stretch for Brent Venables’ staff on the West Coast, where Oklahoma has made significant inroads in recent cycles.
Felila’s decision came after multiple visits to Norman, including time spent during the “Future Freaks” junior day event in early March, where the Sooners hosted several top prospects and secured multiple pledges.
The family atmosphere, defensive scheme, player development track record, and coaching staff relationships proved decisive in his choice.
Oklahoma’s 2027 class remains the No. 1-ranked group nationally according to the 247Sports Composite, despite a recent dip to No. 3 in Rivals rankings due to conservative star evaluations on a couple of elite commits.
With 3 five-stars (including OT Cooper Hackett, LB Cooper Witten, and IOL Kaeden Penny), 10 four-stars, and now a solid group of three-stars like Felila, the class features excellent balance and star power across both sides of the ball.
Even after recent decommitments at running back, the Sooners’ haul continues to project as potentially the greatest in school history.
Coming off a College Football Playoff appearance and entering the 2026 season with high expectations, this emphasis on high school recruiting provides long-term stability.
Players like Felila can be developed over multiple seasons, allowing the transfer portal to serve as a targeted supplement rather than the cornerstone of roster construction.
With several months left in the cycle, Oklahoma’s momentum shows no signs of slowing. Felila’s pledge adds another physical piece to a defensive line that could anchor future SEC contention.
