Oklahoma taps Jared Boyd to revolutionize women's basketball, bringing proven expertise in roster building, NIL strategy, and player development from Texas Tech
In a significant step toward elevating the University of Oklahoma women’s basketball program to sustained championship contention, Vice President and Director of Athletics Roger Denny and Head Coach Jennie Baranczyk announced the hiring of Jared Boyd as the first-ever General Manager in the history of OU women’s basketball on Thursday.
Boyd brings a wealth of expertise to Norman after a standout tenure at Texas Tech, where he served as the women’s basketball General Manager during the 2025-26 season. Prior to that role, he spent five years as the program’s Chief of Staff.
With more than a decade of progressive experience in basketball operations, administration, personnel strategy, and program building, Boyd is widely regarded as a forward-thinking leader in the rapidly evolving landscape of college athletics.
In his new position at Oklahoma, Boyd will oversee a comprehensive range of responsibilities designed to support Coach Baranczyk’s vision and maximize the program’s competitive edge.
These duties include roster management, strategic player acquisition, and ensuring seamless alignment with the head coach’s philosophy.
He will also handle player valuation through advanced analytics and market intelligence, develop NIL and revenue-sharing strategies, manage recruiting operations and relationship building, focus on player retention and long-term development including professional pathways, and navigate governance, compliance, and risk management in today’s complex collegiate sports environment.
Boyd played a pivotal role in constructing Texas Tech’s highly competitive 2025-26 roster. Leveraging the transfer portal and a data-driven approach, he helped the Lady Raiders achieve an impressive 25-7 overall record.
This included a program-best 19-0 start to the season and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Beyond roster construction, Boyd spearheaded the program’s NIL allocation strategy and introduced an innovative, centralized player personnel system known as the “Command Center.” This tool streamlined recruiting evaluation, scouting, and decision-making processes, setting a new standard for operational efficiency in women’s basketball.
Before stepping into the General Manager role, Boyd served as Texas Tech’s Chief of Staff for five seasons. In that capacity, he managed day-to-day basketball operations, including travel logistics, fundraising efforts, NIL strategy development, and all facets of recruiting operations.
Over his six total seasons in Lubbock, Boyd contributed to 109 victories and three postseason berths for the Lady Raiders. The 2025-26 campaign marked several program milestones: Texas Tech secured its first NCAA Tournament win since 2005, posted its best Big 12 Conference finish since 2013 by tying for fourth place, and assembled one of the most experienced and battle-tested rosters in the nation.
His efforts in player retention and culture building were instrumental in maintaining continuity while integrating new talent effectively.
Boyd’s basketball journey began earlier in his career at UT Arlington, where he served as Director of Basketball Operations from the 2017-18 through 2019-20 seasons. During that three-year period, the Mavericks captured a conference championship and accumulated 63 victories, showcasing Boyd’s ability to contribute to winning programs at multiple levels.
Academically, Boyd earned his bachelor’s degree in sports and exercise science from West Texas A&M University in 2012. He later completed his master’s degree in sport management at Texas Tech in 2015. His playing-era experience includes serving as a student manager at West Texas A&M from 2008-12, giving him a foundational understanding of program operations from the ground up.
This hire represents the second General Manager addition under Athletic Director Roger Denny’s leadership, following the appointment of Lucas McKay (from Clemson) to support Head Coach Porter Moser with the Oklahoma men’s basketball program.
The moves reflect a broader institutional commitment to professionalizing operations across OU’s basketball programs amid the shifting realities of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals, revenue sharing, transfer portal dynamics, and heightened compliance demands.
