The Sooners return to the 918 for a non-conference clash against the Arizona State Sun Devils this December at the BOK Center

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma announced Wednesday that the men’s basketball team will play Arizona State on Saturday, December 5th at the BOK Center in Tulsa.

It’s a cool neutral-site game in partnership with BOK Center and Arizona State, and it gives Sooner fans in the Tulsa area a chance to see the team up close this season.

Tickets for the general public go on sale Monday, July 27th at 10 a.m. CT through the BOK Center website. OU season ticket holders get first crack with a presale that runs from Thursday, July 23rd at 10 a.m. CT through Saturday, July 26th at 10 p.m. CT.  OU students will get their ticket info once the fall semester starts.

A start time for the game will be announced later.

This will be a good homecoming of sorts for a lot of OU fans in the 918. The BOK Center has been a solid spot for the Sooners over the years. OU is 4-1 all-time there since it opened in 2008.

They beat Tulsa pretty handily back in the 2008-09 season, took down USC in 2018-19, and split some games against Arkansas in the Crimson and Cardinal Classic under Porter Moser.

The all-time series against Arizona State sits at 1-2. The Sun Devils got the best of the Sooners last season in Phoenix at the Jerry Colangelo Classic, winning 86-70.

This December matchup in Tulsa is the second game in the series, but it’s not a traditional home-and-home since both teams are playing at a neutral site instead of their normal arenas.

Porter Moser is heading into his sixth season leading the Sooners. On the other side, Arizona State has a new head coach in Randy Bennett, who spent the last 25 years at Saint Mary’s. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of system he brings to the Sun Devils.

Tulsa has a strong OU presence. It’s the second-largest concentration of OU alumni in the state with over 15,000 graduates, only behind Oklahoma City. The OU-Tulsa Schusterman Center campus helps a lot with that, and the local OU Club of Tulsa stays active with scholarship golf tournaments and other community events. Having a game like this in Tulsa is a nice way to connect with that fanbase.

For Moser and this program, games like this are important. It gives fans outside of Norman a chance to see the team in person, helps with exposure, and keeps the energy going during the non-conference schedule.

With the SEC being as tough as it is, these early games matter for building momentum and getting some quality wins.

Overall, this is a solid addition to the non-conference schedule. Playing in Tulsa at the BOK Center should be a fun atmosphere, and it gives Sooner fans another reason to get excited about the upcoming season.
