The No. 9 seed Georgia Bulldogs shock the softball world in the SEC tournament as they defeat the No. 1 seed Oklahoma Sooners 10-5, putting them in the semifinals to face Texas

LEXINGTON, Ky.- The 2026 SEC Tournament already had some fireworks through the first two days, but not as big as the Georgia-Oklahoma matchup to end Day 3.  After being behind 5-0 against the Sooners, the 10-5 upset win by the Bulldogs now ties the largest comeback in SEC tournament history. The other time it occurred was last year in Oklahoma's 8-6 win against Arkansas in the semifinals after being down 6-1.

This also marks the first time since 2016 that the Sooners have blown a five-run lead. In the last 10 seasons, the Sooners won 420 straight games when leading by four or more runs. They are 1-2 since that stretch.

Guachino started off hot for Oklahoma on the mound and so did the offense. Ella Parker and Gabbie Garcia each hit a double to help the Sooners get out to an early lead. Garcia also scored later in the bottom of the first off of a fielding error to put Oklahoma up 4-0. This is when the game completely changed as the Bulldogs turned to freshman pitcher Presley Harrison in just the first inning after a rough start from junior pitcher Randi Roelling.

Roeling recorded just one out before the Bulldogs made the pitching change to Harrison. Harrison would go on to only allow one run, a solo shot by Kai Minor in the bottom of the second. Harrison pitched 6 2/3 innings and struck out seven batters, both career highs.

Guachino had no problems until the top of the fourth when Georgia got two huge home runs from Sarah Gordon and Gabi Novickas. After the Sooners gave freshman Allyssa Parker a chance on the mound, Emily Digby tied the game up for the Bulldogs with a three-run bomb. Digby is a part of the scorching hot 7-8-9 hitting lineup that went 5-9 with four RBIs and four runs scored in the 7-3 victory against LSU in the second round.

Oklahoma didn't score another run after the Minor home run in the second and the pitching woes continued. The Sooners attempted to stay in the game with ace pitcher Audrey Lowry, but would score five more with Lowry on the mound to make it a 10-5 game.

What's next:

Oklahoma now awaits Selection Sunday to see where it will be seeded in the NCAA softball tournament while Georgia will face Texas in the semifinals on Friday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN. The other semifinal matchup will be before the Georgia-Texas matchup as Florida faces Alabama at 4:00 p.m. CT on ESPN.

While this loss may possibly knock Oklahoma from being the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA field, the Sooners still have a big chance to host a regional and a super regional.
