The major champion revisits an old Bedlam rivalry grudge, revealing how the former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback allegedly stole his heart during their college days at Oklahoma State
Fresh off winning the U.S. Open, Wyndham Clark decided to air out some old personal business on the Barstool Sports podcast Pardon My Take.
Instead of talking about birdies and major trophies, he dropped a story claiming Baker Mayfield once took his girlfriend back when they were both in college.
Clark referenced an old tweet from December 2016 where he wrote “I hate Baker Mayfield,” and then explained why.
According to him, an ex-girlfriend cheated on him with Baker while Wyndham was at Oklahoma State and Baker was tearing it up at Oklahoma.
He told the story with a smile, saying there’s no real beef now, but it clearly still lives rent-free in his head eight years later.
Look, Baker has always had that swagger about him. The dude walked around like he owned the place even when he first arrived at OU. So it honestly doesn’t shock me that he was out here winning off the field too.
All’s fair in love and war, right?
Baker wasn’t married. He was a young, single, superstar quarterback at Oklahoma. These things happen.
For the record, Atlanta News First sports director Baillie Burmaster, went to OSU and dated Baker during his college days. She’s had a solid career in broadcasting and was covering the Browns later on when Baker was there (after he was already married).
Baker has been happily married to Emily Mayfield since 2019. They have two kids together and seem to be living their best lives. So this story is very much ancient history.
I can’t help but laugh at the timing though. You just won the biggest golf tournament in the world, you’re on top of your sport… and you’re still talking about something that happened with Baker Mayfield in college? That’s wild.
Baker’s out here winning games in the NFL, building a family, and living his best life while this is still on Wyndham’s mind, as he himself remains unmarried.
Sounds like Baker won that chapter of the rivalry too.
Baker made plenty of mistakes in college (we all remember the flag plant, and when he was arrested after running from the cops in Arkansas), but he owned them, grew up, and became a legit leader.
He’s been a good husband and father from everything we’ve seen. Clark coming out with this now just feels like he’s still a little salty.
And let’s be honest, in the grand scheme of the Bedlam rivalry, this is just another W for the Sooners. Even when we’re not playing each other on the field anymore, OU is still winning the off-field battles.
Baker stays winning. He was 3-0 all-time against the Pokes, and he remains undefeated.
Wyndham’s is a great golfer and deserves credit for winning the U.S. Open. But maybe next time he wins a major, he can keep the focus on his own accomplishment instead of rehashing old college relationship drama.
Baker Mayfield moved on years ago. Maybe it’s time Wyndham does too.
