Porter Moser’s Sooners squad faces an underwhelming non-conference schedule so far, with matchups that include Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Pitt, and Purdue
Here’s what we know so far about Oklahoma’s non-conference schedule for the 2026-27 season. Keep in mind this isn’t official yet, but it comes from Rocco Miller of The Field of 68, who’s usually plugged in on these things.
Overall, it’s okay. Not terrible, but definitely not impressive either. Especially when you’re a program trying to get back to the NCAA Tournament and build some momentum under Porter Moser.
The Sooners will play four Power conference opponents in the non-con. They include Pitt, Purdue, Arizona State, and Oklahoma State.
That’s it.
That’s a pretty light load if you’re hoping to boost your resume for Selection Sunday.
And here’s the part that stings: none of those four games are at home in Norman. That’s not great for a lot of reasons.
Here’s the full reported schedule so far...
Home Games:
- Nov 2 – East Texas A&M
- Nov 6 – Mississippi Valley State
- Nov 13 – Fairleigh Dickinson
- Nov 18 – Campbell
- Dec 7 – Alabama State
- Dec 17 – Jackson State
- Dec 28 – UL Monroe
Neutral Site:
- Dec 5 – Arizona State (in Tulsa)
- Dec 12 – Oklahoma State (in Oklahoma City)
Ft. Myers Tip-Off Classic:
- Nov 24 – Pitt
- Nov 26 – Purdue
Road Games:
- TBD
The Ft. Myers trip gives OU two solid games against Power opponents during Thanksgiving week.
Pitt and Purdue will both be competitive. The Bedlam game in OKC is always fun, and Arizona State should be decent. But outside of those, it’s a whole lot of low-major home games.
This schedule feels very safe.
There just aren’t enough high-level opponents to really get fans fired up early in the year.
Porter Moser is already heading into this season on pretty thin ice with a lot of the fanbase. Attendance at the Lloyd Noble Center has been rough for years now.
When you don’t give fans good non-con home games to get excited about, it makes it even harder to get people to buy in and show up.
We’re still waiting on the SEC/ACC Challenge opponent to be announced. That should add one more Power conference game. Last year OU had to go on the road to Wake Forest, so in theory the Sooners should get a home game this season. That would help a little.
At the end of the day, this non-con schedule looks like it was built more for winning games and building confidence than for challenging the team and padding the resume.
With only four Power games, all on the road or neutral, it’s going to make it tougher come March if the Sooners want an at-large bid.
They’ll still have a chance to pick up some good wins, especially if they can take care of business against Pitt and Purdue in Florida and beat OSU in December. But this schedule doesn’t scream “we’re trying to make a statement.”
We’ll see how it all shakes out once the full thing is released.
For now, it feels pretty underwhelming for a program that desperately needs some positive momentum and energy in the building.
