OU WRs Javonnie Gibson & Ivan Carreon Head To Portal On Busy Day cover image

Amid commitments from Trell Harris and Parker Livingstone, Javonnie Gibson and Ivan Carreon opt out, capping a rapid turnover in the Sooners' passing game targets

The Oklahoma Sooners' wide receiver position has been hit hard by the transfer portal this offseason, with the latest entries coming from Javonnie Gibson and Ivan Carreon on January 6, 2026.

These departures bring the total to seven wide receivers entering the portal, highlighting a significant exodus from a group that showed promise but struggled with depth and production in 2025.

Javonnie Gibson, a transfer from Arkansas-Pine Bluff who joined OU ahead of the 2025 season, plans to enter the portal after just one year in Norman.

Gibson, known for his size at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, was a highly touted addition ranked among the top wide receiver transfers last cycle.

He recorded limited production in 2025, with notable contributions in games against LSU and in the College Football Playoff loss to Alabama, including a 38-yard reception.

Despite high expectations, Gibson seeks a new opportunity with multiple years of eligibility remaining.

Shortly after, Ivan Carreon, a 6-foot-6 sophomore from the 2024 recruiting class, also announced his intent to transfer.

Carreon, a former four-star prospect out of Odessa, Texas, flashed potential as a true freshman in 2024 due to injuries in the room but saw his role diminish in 2025 amid additions via the portal.

He finished his OU career with 12 receptions for 124 yards, entering the portal with two years of eligibility left.

Carreon's massive frame made him an intriguing red-zone threat, but limited snaps pushed him to seek more playing time elsewhere.

These moves follow Zion Kearney's entry on January 5, making it a brutal 48-hour stretch for the position group.

The full list of departing wide receivers includes:

  • Jayden Gibson (committed to South Carolina)
  • Jakeb Snyder
  • Josiah Martin
  • KJ Daniels
  • Zion Kearney
  • Ivan Carreon
  • Javonnie Gibson

Jayden Gibson, a tall target who dealt with injuries and off-field issues, has already found a new home with the Gamecocks.

The others—Snyder (former walk-on), Martin (Cal transfer who redshirted), Daniels (2024 signee with no stats), and Kearney (sophomore with minimal 2025 snaps)—remain uncommitted.

The departures compound losses from eligibility expiration, with seniors Deion Burks and Keontez Lewis moving on.

Leading receiver Isaiah Sategna III's status remains uncertain as he weighs NFL options after a breakout 2025 season with over 900 yards.

Head coach Brent Venables and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones face a rebuild, but the Sooners have been aggressive in the portal.

On January 5, Virginia transfer Trell Harris committed, bringing 59 receptions, 847 yards, and five touchdowns from his All-ACC third-team season.

The very next day, former Texas standout Parker Livingstone followed suit, crossing the Red River after a redshirt freshman year with 29 catches for 516 yards and six scores.

Livingstone, a former four-star recruit, adds big-play ability and three years of eligibility.

Returning pieces like Jer'Michael Carter and potentially Jacob Jordan provide some continuity, but the influx of Harris and Livingstone signals OU's intent to reload quickly for quarterback John Mateer in 2026.

This portal frenzy underscores the volatility of college football's modern era, where depth charts shift dramatically overnight.

For Oklahoma, coming off a 10-3 season and playoff appearance, stabilizing the passing game will be key in a loaded SEC.

The Sooners have shown they can attract top talent, but integrating newcomers amid so much turnover will test the staff.

As the portal window closes on January 16, expect more moves—but for now, the wide receiver room looks entirely reinvented.
