College football media personality Josh Pate ranked the top programs in the country and took a jab at the Oregon Ducks.
Josh Pate has never once shied away from telling what he believes to be the truth. Monday, he was no different.
Agree with him or disagree with him, every time he makes a point, he backs it up with his reasoning. Everything is always well thought out, and it often offers a different perspective and a new angle to consider the facts.
Monday's conversation was evaluating all of the NCAA by using their last three seasons as the sample size. He considered wins and losses on the field, recruiting, roster development, NIL standing, and the quality of staff.
Each of those considered, the Ducks were slotted in the No. 4 spot.
While it isn't where they likely wanted to be, it is probably a fair place for them.
Oregon will forever and always have the best NIL opportunities thanks to the Swoosh. However, the only field production is probably fourth best in the country over the past three years. They can thank two of the three teams ahead of them for embarrassingly ending their last two seasons.
Pate has them maxed out for the current state of the program.
It's pretty simple moving forward for the Ducks; they have nothing else to do other than just win the whole thing.
They are in the uncomfortable spot of having the pressure and responsibility of expectation, and the standard is so high that it is going to be incredibly hard to achieve.
A coach or a player will never say this, but the truth is that the regular season doesn't mean much anymore for the Ducks. No one cares what they do from September through November. The only thing that matters is what they do between the end of December and the end of January.
That's it.
If it were my ranking, I would have them a touch lower behind Notre Dame but ahead of Alabama, still.
This is still largely a compliment to the Oregon program, but they will have to take the next step soon, or else the conversations are going to get very loud in Eugene.
